Those with Medela Pumps...
Strange question, but how do you "detach"?
The cup sticks to me and HURTS when I pull it off and it always seems like there is milk in the cup that drips out all over me. 
The instructions don't really give you a lot of insight.

No insight on the milk leaking issue, same happened to me.
As for detaching, I'd turn machine off then remove.

I turned off the machine then used my pinky finger to release the suction and then that did the trick. HTH

I have the same problem. If you are only pmping one side, you can turn the pump off beore detaching, but when double pumping, you don't have a free hand! I usually tip forward a little to make sure as little milk as possible stays in the cups, then SLOWLY pull one cup away and then the other. It does hurt a little though and some milk does remain in the cup and leak out when you detach.

I tip forward also and that seems to help the extra milk go into the bottle. I've been pumping quite a while and even though I use the double pump....I only use one hand. I put on arm across my chest and my forearm holds the top of one shield while my hand holds the other. It's really easy and I get lots done. I even come on here and chat when I pump!

I souble pump also, at the end I pull the tubes out of the back and the suction releases
I try to stay on for 5 minutes after the milk stops to avoid leakage ( and increase supply) but I spill a little milk sometimes

I was taught by my lactation nurse to turn them off- I always did double pump. Lean forward and you want to twist gently clockwise to release the suction and then scoop up to get all of the milk around the nipple. It worked like a charm everytime and didnt hurt. good luck

I have the leaking problem too and it makes me wonder how I am going to pump at work, if I end up dripping milk on my clothes every time i do it!
As for the suction... definitely turn it off before you take the pump off your breast so it doesn't hurt. I still haven't really mastered the double pumping thing though.. I'm impressed with all of you who can do that and do other things with your hands at the same time!!!

Same here! I keep the breast pads nearby and make sure to put them under my breast as I remove the cups. I also keep baby wipes on hand. 
I was going to suggest the same thing the other moms said - turn the unit off and remove each cup gently with your finger...I try to break the suction that way too.
