"Peeling" Skin

Hey Ladies!!

I am calling it "peeling" skin but it is really dry skin...my son has it all over his body.

My MIL says it's normal....like the skin is renewing itself but it looks so awful and it is flaking everywhere.

I've used the Johnson and Johnson baby lotion and it doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions? It is was a problem with my skin, i'd just "loofah it" off in the shower. But i can't do that to my precious boy...

If he's a newborn, it's perfectly normal. Their skin is now exposed to air for the first time & gets dried out. Keep in mind he was in water for 10 months.

When I asked my old ped (not the god-like Dr. Cavanagh) about it, he told me to do nothing. Not to interfere with the body's process to moisturize itself & adjust to air.

It made sense to me.

My dd had that too and now my ds has it. My ped told me to use Vaseline and it worked wonders. It was clear in 2 days.

Thanks...i will try the vaseline...

Ya know what kills me? People look at him and tell me to put lotion on him...like i am neglecting my child.....like i didn't think of that....

Try Aveeno baby moisture cream. My son had it so bad when he was born on his hands it was visable in his first photos. The cream worked great

I haven't done this, but I've heard of using olive oil.

I also recomend using Baby Aveeno moisture cream it worked well for my DD. The cream is also hypoallergenic. She has very sensitive skin like her mommy and it helped.

It's normal for a newborn. Like a few PP's said the baby has been in water for 10 months and is now exposed to air. My ped also said not to use any creams or lotions, the body will do what it needs to.

By 4 weeks her skin looked normal.
