What is the crime rate and school systems like where you live now?

I didn't move out of state, but I moved upstate (about 6 hours upstate).

I think the schools are actually better where we live here than on Long Island.

However, for some reason I don't feel as safe in my suburb. The largest city near me is Rochester, which has a much higher per capita murder rate and crime rate than New York City. Syracuse and Buffalo are not much better. In the summer, I swear there would be a murder on the news every night! And the scary thing is, it is in areas / on streets that I drive on a lot! When I lived on LI, whenever there was a bad crime committed, I felt very removed from it, tucked nicely in my north shore suburb.

I think a lot of my insecurity here has to do with the fact that our house was burgularized right after we closed.

we moved to NJ, i feel safe in the town where we live, i dont know about the school districts since we dont have kids..

We are in the 2nd highest rating school district in VA, however the city we are closest to has a high crime rate. We don't visit there very often so it doesn't affect us much. Oddly the suburbs are surprisingly safe. Lots of people don't lock their doors at night!!

I moved to LI by way of NJ, and the school districts and crime rates were better than LI. I also lived in CT where both were better than most areas of LI.
