My OB doesn't want to see me until I'm 8 weeks!

I'm noticing alot of your docs have scheduled blood work right away. When I called the office, they scheduled me for the end of February after asking a few questions. Anyone else have this happen?? They told me my digital was confirmation enough

I didn't have bloodwork. I called the OB (and since I was fairly new to the area, this was the first time I'd called the practice), told them I'd gotten a positive on a HPT, and they gave me an appointment. I was about 8 weeks at that appt.

I saw my doctor a few days after I called to make an appointment, but at that point I was already 7 weeks pregnant...they only did a medical history and quick pregnancy test and sent me for bloodwork...I went back the next week for my first sono...

Same thing happened to me....I found out at 4 1/2 weeks...they wouldn't see me until 7 weeks. They said that BFP was proof.

I went for bloodwork only after my first visit - never to confirm pregnancy. They did a Sono at the first visit to confirm....

I think many obs wait until 8 wks, unless problems arise, you've had prior miscarriages or infertility treatment. I wouldn't worry too much.

It was the same for me. didn't see the dr. for the first time until after 8 weeks!

My OB said if I "must" have bloodwork to confirm, then I could. BUT, that the pg tests I used were exactly the same ones they use to confirm pg. She said they only tested beta levels when there was signs of previous fertility issues.

I didn't have my first appointment until 9.5 weeks. I DID get a prescription for prenatals right away though.....

my first appt i'll be 9 weeks! it would've been 8 weeks but my dr is on vacation.
They took me in right away to take a pee test, but thats really all they did..THey asked a few questions too.

They told me not to come before 7 weeks. I think that way they could do the sono then and not tell me to come back in a week. When I went, they gave me the papers to get bloodwork done before my next visit.

Each dr. is different and honestly, you should appreciate this...because this is one less test (translation co$t...bloodwork is around 60-80 bucks per test, internal sono. is around 250-300) for you. Some will use an internal ultrasound to confirm as well these days. When I told my new dr. that my first dr. did one, she was in shock because there really was no need to do it since he hadn't done bloodwork and observed low/odd hormone levels. [he also said it was to dismiss ectopic pregnancy...but again, there was nothing actually prompting him to think it was a possibility in the first place.]

My Dr. didn't see me until about 7 wks. He didn't confirm my pg with a blood test either. He gave me a sono.

my dr's office wouldn't see me until 7 weeks but i was a total wreck since it is my first pregnancy...i called them and demanded to be seen and they let me come in. Unfortunately going in early kind of backfired on me b/c they tried to tell me my hormone levels were low and that i would probably miscarry, and here i am now at 20 weeks completely healthy. had I not gone in so early I wouldn't have had so much to worry about...

My midwives didn't see me until just about 12 weeks.

I didn't get any bloodwork either and my first appoinment was at 2 months also.

mine didnt want to see me until around 8 weeks either, however, i had never been to this practice and also told them i was taking anti depression medication, so they had me see the nurse practitioner

Normal procedure with my OB too. For both my pregnancies, they didn't want to see me until I was 7-9 weeks along. i was fine with that.

I had mine at 9 weeks also. When i called to make an appt. the nurse called in my prenatels right away. I also called with a few questions. But they did not see me

I had mine at 8 1/2 weeks, some dr's that is standard procedure....

i was in at 4 weeks, only b/c i didnt believe the home test and i hadnt been to the obgyn in over 2 years

same here. my appointment isn't until the first week in march. i guess there's no point in going sooner if you don't have a specific medical reason... but in my mind i pictured going in for the blood test, like somehow that would have made things "official".

Thats very common. They made an exception with me at 7 wks because I told them I was going to Thailand on my 8th week, and really wanted to go on my honeymoon with a clear head knowing that the pregnancy was ok so far....

I was 9 weeks when I saw my doctor for the 1st time.
