Re: Camera/photo question

on my camera is the portrait setting.

You press the shutter and focus on the subject and take the pic, where the red light is, that is focused and the rest is blurred.

I have the Canon Digital Rebel.

Re: Camera/photo question

if you're able to adjust the aperture you want to set the f-stop to the lowest number. depends on the lens how low it can go. i have a lens that goes down to 1.8 and it gives you the best background blur. also if you have a zoom lens, if you go further away and zoom in it can help to blur out the background.

if you're not able to manually adjust the aperture, like sweetness said the portrait mode will be your best option.

I can manually adjust the aperture- I just don't know how or even what that is!

I will break out the manual.

what kind of camera do you have? is it an SLR? i put mine on the Av setting and then thre's a dial I can turn to change the f-stop.

also, the more distance you have between your subject and whatever is in the background, the more the background will be blurred.

i do the same.

Wikipedia actually helped me alot, also (i read through the page, and click on all of the links to learn about the different settings). Also The Photo Forum has alot of useful tips (i go to the beginners place. i don't post there, but just reading it helps alot).
