Wantagh

Can anyone fill me in on Wantagh. I think this is a place I want to look when DH and I start looking.

By accident when I was driving, I came across what looked like a really nice neighborhood.

There was a sign that said "Mandalay Bay" and I believe the street I drove down was Bayview Avenue.

Does anyone know about the area/schools. It seemed very convenient to the Parkway.

wantagh is a great area.

part of wantagh goes to Levittown SD. I like wantagh SD better, but they are both good.

Wantagh is really nice...very down-to-earth and just an overall great town.

There are two parts to Wantagh -- one part is in the Wantagh schools (i think the neighborhood you mention falls into that category) and the other is in the Levittown school district.

Re: Wantagh

We live in Mandalay area right off Bayview. I'll FM you a house across the street from me that's up for sale. I've never been inside so I can't speak to the condition of the house, but the owners are nice and the neighbors are fantastic. Chat Icon We bought ILs house, so DH knows most of the neighbors his whole life and they really are very nice.

It's Wantagh schools (SD#23) and are very good, they are all Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence (whatever that means Chat Icon ) I think that the teachers are without a contract, but not for as long as Seaford has been without a contract. The school is trying to get a new bond passed to update and expand the schools, a big debate on them has been going on in the local paper, the Wantagh Seaford Citizen. For the average Wantagh homeowner they anticpate taxes will go up $100 - $150.

Taxes are a little high since we don't really have much business revenue to offset it. But all in all it's a nice area.

FM if you have any specific questions.

Re: Wantagh

Wantagh was one of the areas that we were looking in. My parents just bought a house there and it's such a beautiful area. Their area is made up of all brick splits...so nice!! The only thing that discouraged us were the taxes...it's pretty expensive.

Re: Wantagh

Wantagh was our #1 choice of town, but we only really wanted in the Wantagh Woods section and we bid on a few houses but they were just a bit out or our range. It's a great town, #23 is a great SD and the location is nice - close to highways, shopping, etc.

We looked at a few houses just south of merrick rd but found they were very small on very small pieces of property - not a lot of trees, etc so we looked elsewhere.

Re: Wantagh

We live in Wantagh but in Levittown Schools. We are right off the Seaford Oyster Bay & could not be happier with our area.

Orignally we looked in Mandalay but could not find something reasonable enough in the area we wanted to be. Bayview (down past the sign) is mostly Splanches (love them, own one myself). They are very nice houses & a great area. The school district is great too! Parkways are close & so are all shopping centers!

If you get off the parkway at exit 28 Wantagh Ave and go past Jerusleum Rd for a bit and make a left...that area back there is Wantagh Woods. There is a shopping area that also says "Wantagh Woods" right by there.

An easier way is to get off the Seaford Oyster Bay at Exit 3 (first exit off Southern state). Make a left at the exit ramp & proceed to the light, go over Jerusalem to the first stop sign (right before entrance ramp onto Seaford Oyster bay) & make a right onto Woodbine Ave & that is Wantagh Woods

Right past St. Frances de Chantal Church & the Wantagh schools....The entire area North of the LIRR & up to the Seaford Oyster Bay but South of Jerusalem!

Re: Wantagh

We just moved to Wantagh Woods (two months ago today actually). So far, we love it. The neighborhood is quaint, the people are nice & friendly, and it's a beautiful area, with great schools.

Re: Wantagh

Yeah we moved to Wantagh last year. LOVE this area - recommend it to everyone. Although we don't live in Wantagh Woods - we live in Forest Lake which is a little West of Wantagh Avenue but north of Twin Lakes section. The schools are great - it's a very family-oriented area. I can see myself living here for a long time. When we were looking, the taxes in the woods area were really high - around $10,500-11,000. Same school district, where we are, we're paying around $8,000; a little less. The Mandalay area is extremely nice - we looked there but saw a lot of no basement/half basement houses. Nothing we really liked was on sale at that time down there. We really liked Massapequa too. I would say Merrick, Wantagh, Seaford, Massapequa area great all around choices.
