true labor vs early labor?
I have tons of tightening and releasing of the stomach and sharp pains in the back BUT I can still laugh, talk, and walk. When will I know that I am in real labor? Will the mucous plug or water definitely break?

It will be too painful to do anything during a contraction if its real labor.

Oh yeah - you'll know the difference
The day before I had Ava I experienced lots of tightening in my stomach and I just felt lousy......not even 24 hours later she was in my arms!!!!
Good luck to you!!!!!!!!!!

Re: true labor vs early labor?
your mucus plug or water will not necessarily break - mine did not
you may be able to talk and walk during a very early contraction, but that could also be braxton hicks...you should start timing the feelings you are having to see if they are evenly spaced minutes apart for at least an hour

Re: true labor vs early labor?
I felt very lousy for about 2 weeks before real labor. Every night I would get contractions. They were painful, but I always said that if I could fall asleep, it couldn't be the real thing. The day I gave birth, I got one contraction and just "knew" it was time. There really is a big difference.
ETS: also, my water never broke and I lost my plug about 4 weeks before I had him. Then I had more mucus discharge a week before I had him.

Re: true labor vs early labor?
question: is it still considered braxton hicks if I am 39 weeks?

Re: true labor vs early labor?
When I was in early labor I could do all those things. As soon as the tightening and releasing starts to hurt it's most likely labor.
And yes, at 39 wks its considered BH.
