Re: How do you decorate...
We get a live tree, absolutely LOVE the smell of the pine tree. Also, I don't mind vacumming up the pine needles for months, becuase then whenever we vacuum it smells like pine, instead of my 2 dogs.
We or (I) put cute Holiday hand towels and soap dispenser in our 1/2 bath.
I LOVE the cininmonn pine cones, but Phil hates them. I try to sneak them in and them in our 1/2 bath.
This year we are putting lights on our HUGE pine tree outside and lights on our porch.
I am so looking forward to the Holidays this year!

Re: How do you decorate...
I too LOVE the pine cones & put some under my couch & in the bathrooms.
A tree in front of my bay window, white lights in the windows, Mr & Mrs Santa that move in the windows too.
We decorate outside with lights & that Christmas garland that looks like real tree.
Alot of candles throughout, and lit!
Christmas table linens.
I hang my cards up, just looking for something nice to hang them up with this year.
Christmas decor around my entertainment center (I get it at Michaels) for example now I have a vine of autum leaves draping it.

We also have a live tree as we both love the smell of pine when you walk into our house.
The cinnamon pine cones go in a holiday tub right in our entryway!
In our living room, we also set up our snow village & I have the light up candles in every window. Our coffee table gets a holiday runner with Santa figurines.
We put a fiber optic tree up in our backroom. My kitchen gets holiday towels & also a holiday door draft stopper.
The outside of our house gets trimmed with icicle lights & the pine tree gets red lights.

Re: How do you decorate...
This was our first holiday season in the house and we focused most of our decorating around the mantle.. We decorated for Halloween, Thanksgiving and plan on decorating for Christmas on the mantle. I like it because it keeps the holiday decorations from cluttering up the rest of the house (we have a small house so space is it at a premium). For halloween/thanksgiving we strung a string of decorative leaves with lights from below the mantel in addition to what was on top, I liked the feel it gave to the room. We also have a wreath that we place on the door and we change depending on the holiday.. I can't wait to put christmas lights our...it's our first time so we'll see how that goes!!

Re: How do you decorate...
Inside we are doing a real tree and probably doing something around the mantel (prob garland and stockings).
Outside we are putting 2 of these artificial pre-lit trees from Home Depot at our front door and one of those white light reindeers (DH loves them)...

Re: How do you decorate...
We have these for outside-
in 4, 5, and 6 feet tall.
I have a cute little penguin soap dispenser for the bathroom, and of course hand towels and stuff. Also, we set up a big display of our Christmas village- it's Springfield (The Simspons).
My mom does the classy Christmas thing- my faves are: 1) Her collection of swarovski ornaments hung from her Dining room chandelier 2) A crystal waterford bowl filled with silver and red plain ball ornaments. So understaed, I love that. 3) Snowman ornaments, huung by ribbon, int he kitchen bay window 4) Red and silver plain ball ornaments, hung in the front bay window, at different lengths, shaped like a Christmas tree. I love my parents house at Christmas time!

They plug in... The ones I posted are expensive, but I saw them in Home Depot near me for $39.99!
We have to buy "fake trees" like this for our front yard b/c we planted all of our landscaping during the summer and our biggest bush is like 2 feet tall! Maybe next year we'll be able to decorate our real trees!

My mom does the classy Christmas thing- my faves are:

4) Red and silver plain ball ornaments, hung in the front bay window, at different lengths, shaped like a Christmas tree.
I love my parents house at Christmas time!
Sounds great, thanks for the suggestions! I have the swarovski ornaments too and they get lost in the tree and pull the boughs down!
If we had a chandelier, I'd do that too.
I think we should try for #4 too, that sounds like a great idea!
We do:
A real tree, purchased from our local volunteer FD down the road. Since we usually get a 1/2 size tree for the tabletop, we sometimes ask them to make a wreath for the front door with the leftover boughs.
Each year we each get a couple of new ornaments for each of our styles. I have the snowflake ornaments from Swarovski going back 4 years, he has Star Wars ornaments, you get the idea.
This year, we have our first Department56 village piece which we will put by the tree.
We have two stockings that we hang up too. But when we have a house, I'd love to get these, with personalized stockings:

I love those, but they never hold the weight of a full stocking... There must be a trick.
You should definitely try hanging your swarovskis in the window- either with those adhesive hoos, or off a curtain rod. They are so nice when they catch the sunlight. Like Pollyanna.
