Re: CD rates at banks

I think that HSBC had one listed (I was looking into the online savings so I wasn't paying that much attention) but I think it said something like 5.25% on a 9 month CD. (Like I said, I could be wrong.)

I've been looking for CD rates also and I haven't found any that offer anything much higher than my savings right now. My credit union was doing a special (6%). Do you belong to a credit union? Maybe you would be able to get a special through them. But as far as the local banks and even the online banks I haven't seen anything impressive.

nope, don't belong to a credit union... 6% is good though.

Re: CD rates at banks

You may be better off looking into money markets or money market CDs. Schwab has some nice programs.

CDs right now are paying very close to what high yield savings accounts are paying. After the taxes on interest you are only getting about 2.8% of your interest if you are earning 5%. You are not even beating inflation.

Monkey market funds are good too. Some are earning 6-10%, but these are not FDIC insured and carry some risk.

No problem, though you may want to ask, maybe they have a different type of account that pays better interest. My DH is her manager, he could help also.
