Anyone ever look at expensive houses...
for fun? It ends up not being fun b/c we obviously can't afford them, but sometimes we get so sick of looking at pieces of cr@p in our price range and venture out into the expensive section. 
I came across this one before:

An ex's sister was looking at 2 million dollar houses back in 2001 before the big increase. She asked me to go with her to several appointments she had. None of these houses were listed on mlsli or had open houses.
She would up buying a historic Gold Coast mansion that is "named". Her "ball room" (and I'm not talking about the ones at McDonalds ) is large enough that she can have parties of 300 people 
Oh, and it was a "fixer upper"

If I hit the lotto I wouldnt go that crazy and buy that expensive of a house. I would buy a few houses in different areas all over the US

We looked at some homes that were out of our price range. But not too far out of it because i didnt want to get too depressed!

Yes, DH and I live in NJ and were looking for houses in a couple of towns surrounding Short Hills (very expensive) we were with our RE Agent and passed an open house, we decided to go in for fun....(over $1mil house). Every single bedroom was the size of a master suite (5 bedrooms). Was gorgeous!

Beautiful - but if I was paying that much $$ to live in RVC, I'd want to be in the RVC SD.
I used to look at what I'd buy IF I won the lottery - but then I realized it depressed me -

I don't, because I don't want to fall in love with a house I will never be able to buy. I also think when I go back to the houses in my range, I will not like them as much.
We actually went to the wrong house for an open house, which was $250,000 more than that house we were looking for, and we walked out. The RE lady kept saying, "well, you are here, just stay and look...." I just couldn't do it. I knew the second I was in the front foyer that it was the wrong house.

Yes! LOL I always looked in the $1.7 range - I thought that was a nice range while still being modest (which is my taste).

Gorgeous home, just wish it had more property. (The house alone looks like it's 1.2 acres! )

we did..we once saw a home in Manhasset Hills that just blew me away. Then we went home and called our realtor and told her we wanted to make an offer!

I actually liked that it was in the oceanside SD. I went to oceanside so I think it would be fun if my kids went there too!

I do. To get ideas on how to decorate and remodel. It's so sickening looking at the homes in our price range sometimes. The houses are so dirty and rundown.
That's also why I love looking at peoples pics on here when they do their own remodeling. I love the before and after shots!
