Re: dress professionally?

To me, it means it a suit. If you dont have one, go to Target, they have VERY nice suits.

Re: dress professionally?

Depends on the profession. In my line of work ( Military Aircraft) I have never worn a suit, even on the interview. I usually wear black slacks, pumps & a dress shirt

Not the headhunter that found my present job. You should wear a business suit at ALL times. It shows professionalism.

there's beautiful pants suit. i have first hand knowledge, that a lot of companies are now going buisness casual. for some companies, a pants suit would be good

I know suits are preferred, but I find that a lot of people coming in for interviews are dressed in neat business attire -- dress slacks or a skirt with a blouse and something similar for men.

If you are employed while job hunting it's pretty difficult to wear a suit for an interview when you work in a business casual office. At least 30 people would make a "joke" about having an interview if I ever came to work in a suit.

In this instance, as someone that interviews/hires people, I find it acceptable to not wear a suit. But if you are not working, I think a suit should be worn.

Re: dress professionally?

What are you talking about? A pant suit? Isnt that a SUIT? And it dosent matter if the company dress code is business casual, I would not go to an interview dressed business casual. And I have first hand knowledge myseld, because I was told by my headhunter they thought I looked sharp.

I didn't say pant suit nor did I say to interview in business casual -- I said as someone that interviews and hires people that a suit is not a necessity in certain situations.

Of course it's preferred, but I can understand where it's difficult for the candidate to do that and be able to look for a job without their employer knowing.

ETA -- you can be dressed professionally without wearing a suit.

I was actually responding to bklyngrl.

And I know it is difficult, I did it for 2 months, changing into a suit in the back of my car. But, I felt it needed to be done. I myself, could never walk into an interview without wearing a suit. JMO.

I agree. Go to Macy's, they always have a sale on suits. I recently bought 2 suits there (Jones NY & Tahari) for $212!

Re: dress professionally?

This is straight from a job advice website:

Women
Always wear a suit with a jacket; no dresses
Shoes with conservative heels
Conservative hosiery at or near skin color (and no runs!)
No purses, small or large; carry a briefcase instead
If you wear nail polish (not required), use clear or a conservative color
Minimal use of makeup (it should not be too noticeable)
No more than one ring on each hand
One set of earrings only

that's exactly what I have been doing.

I had an interview yesterday - my 3rd one in person (1 was over the phone) in just over a month, and that is exactly what I have been wearing. a black pinstripe pant suit with a pastel colored blouse, low pointy heels and a black shoulder briefcase. no purse.

my nails are painted a sheer pink, light makeup and I wore diamond studs & my wedding rings only.

Re: dress professionally?

i personally dont think a suit is always necessary, it really depends on the industry--if they r impressed with ur qualifications and u dress neat and professional i dont think a suit will make or break the interview
