Remote positions?
I was just curious what industries typically have more availability for remote positions besides IT? I was able to work remotely during the pandemic and I saw how much work/life balance it brought me. In September our job started implementing a hybrid schedule so I'm in the office at most 3 days a week, and there is talk of us going back in January to 5 days. In my industry it is hard to find remote positions so I was thinking about applying to different industries and trying to make a career switch, but don't know really what areas offer mostly remote work besides IT (which I can't do).

Remote positions?
There is a company called workingsolutions.com that has different types of positions and all remote. I worked with them at one point on various assignments.

I work admin/accounting for a law firm and my position is fully remote. They just switched over to fully remote so it's pretty new. I feel like a lot more places are going to follow suit.
My mother works in accounting for an ad agency and she's staying remote for the foreseeable future.

I work in research administration in a fully remote position.
I’d be careful not to equate fully remote to good work/life balance. This is the worst job I’ve ever had in terms of work/life balance. I’m frequently in meetings past 5pm and it’s not abnormal for me to be working past midnight.

I’d be careful not to equate fully remote to good work/life balance. This is the worst job I’ve ever had in terms of work/life balance. I’m frequently in meetings past 5pm and it’s not abnormal for me to be working past midnight.

Add in all the distractions of home and it's a recipe for disaster.
My stress level is higher than it's ever been to be honest.
I consider looking for in person work a lot lately for that reason alone

I got stuck once or twice when others in my department were out and I was working on a project late, but when my supervisor noticed I was still working she told me to leave it and pick it up in the morning and to make sure my timecard is correct so I get my OT. I think it depends on your level. My mom is in a higher position- client finance manager- and she isn't on call all the time, but is expected to be at the client's whim more. They schedule meetings and she mostly needs to be available so she winds up working on her days off sometimes or early in the morning/later at night. That being said, they have unlimited personal time so it's not like she's wasting the time off.

And we've been so busy lately that I can literally work for 12 hours a day and not stop to eat without even realizing it.
So being home makes it way worse for me in that I get up, start working, and next thing I know it's 6 pm and i haven't even gotten dressed.
No delineation between work and home life- it all just blends together into one big depressing mush

Yes it can be very bad. That is why I like the few days to get away from home as it seems also like you are just out there by yourself some days. It is an odd feeling.

I find that as well. I do take breaks to drop off and pick up my younger son at school, and then to chauffeur my older son around to sports but most days I start around 7:30am and finish around 8pm. DH wonders why I get nothing done around the house and I want to punch him.

This. I’ve lost so much weight because I often don’t get a chance to eat. I’m also constantly scrambling to find someone to pick DD up from after school because my meetings run until all hours of the night.
It’s honestly horrible.

Thank you all for the input and yes I can see how remote doesn't always mean work/life balance especially if you have to put in extra hours. My position is definitely doable from home, but they want the office staffed. When I work from home, I am able to structure my day around certain things like if I have to pick up my daughter from school when my husband gets stuck with overtime. I recognize not every job is like that though.

I agree. I am mostly back in the office, but there are a few days when I'm working from home. My work from home days are much worse than my office days.
It's not uncommon for me to start at 8-8:30 and not stop until 9 pm or later. I will take a break now and then to get dinner together or throw in some laundry.
What kept me sane for the 18 months we were exclusively work from home was keeping my normal routine. I got up every morning, took a walk, took a shower and got dressed (even if it was just sweats), and then sat down an started working. I would set an alarm for 5 to remind me to start wrapping things up. It helped tremendously, but took a LOT of discipline and took me quite a few months to establish that routine.
