I’m anxiously awaiting an email from the district. Two districts sent emails in our county saying the exact same thing - awaiting further guidance.
It’s going to be in the 90s this week - it makes sense.
Same. District is awaiting further guidance. I am so hoping that they get back to us by tomorrow night. We get daily emails about cases and there has been hardly any in weeks . I am so hoping they drop the mandate!

I'd love to know.....guidance from who? The state lifted the mandate. Who else do they need guidance from? The Holy Spirit? Jesus himself?

This is part of the letter that was sent from our district:
The letter, which can be read here: https://www.governor.ny.gov/sites/default/files/2021- 06/Letter_from_NYSDOH.pdf) suggests that masks will continue to be encouraged but no longer required to be worn by students/staff while in school/on campus. Please understand that the above guidance is subject to review and approval from the CDC. Once the District receives further information or confirmation about any changed guidance, it will be shared with everyone. More information will be sent on when it is available
So now I wait……

Ah, the CDC. The same agency who said we don't have to wear masks when alone outside a few months ago like it was some big breakthrough. We're doomed. Lol

Masks encouraged but not required in NY schools
It seems districts are taking the letter two different ways. One, that unless the CDC says something this weekend, masks are off on Monday. The other, they are waiting for the CDC says its ok and masks are on on Monday. My district is the latter one but parents are saying they are sending in with no masks. We'll see what happens with that. It is such a political move to drop something like this on a Friday so now we have to wait the whole weekend.

Districts by me make BOCES wide decisions. All the superintendents are meeting tomorrow to make a uniform decision.

Re: Masks encouraged but not required in NY schools
I know everyone is so excited about this but I honestly can’t understand why they would do this so close to the school year end and I am hoping that our district keeps masks for the remaining two weeks of school - at least for middle/high Schools. Since the masks came off out of school our school has been experiencing an out break of both covid and non covid illness. As per our local Pediatrician she 100 percent attributed this to the masks coming off and everyone all of a sudden acting like there is no covid. They said they went from seeing no covid cases for weeks to a big uptick a week later.
And honestly this is a big problem that will be WORSE for the middle/high school kids than covid if people actually stop and think it through. Right now my middle schooler’s grade is having a mini covid outbreak. Since our school is now 3 feet apart so everyone can be in school every day - between the sick kids and the kids on quarantine, half the grade is home for 10 days. That means these kids have missed their concerts, sports, school, everything. Once in a lifetime things that are done and they can’t get back. At least one team had so many kids out they couldn’t even finish the season as they didn’t have enough kids to play. Im assuming if masks come off there will be even more quarantine. Hopefully this doesn’t lead to kids missing their proms, graduation, championships etc.
It’s 2-3 weeks and I hope these districts think this through.

Judging by the responses on here alone, "optional" will mean...."see ya masks!"

I agree. Why not just ride out the last couple of weeks? It seems silly.
Hoping for the best for all involved.

I don't think lifting masks in schools will cause a huge problem over the next two weeks. However, I do not think parents and teachers should get themselves overly excited for the long term just yet. I do think mask mandates for schools will be back, at least temporarily, at some point next school year, possibly if cases tick up again around the holidays.

Because Cuomo's daughter is getting married. That is the only reason. Cuomo doesn't give a crap about our kids or doing what is best for them. He is self serving and he probably didn't want to take pictures with masks on (or get caught taking pictures with masks off).
My children are both vaccinated so I would have been asking for masks off for them anyway next year. Our oldest is in Finals week so school is basically over for her. My younger one, they still sit 6 feet apart so it should be ok.

But what does that have to do with camp/schools? Can’t vaccinated adults already be indoors maskless as of 2 weeks ago? I assume a wedding or similar event would’ve been covered already.
ETA: I also don’t see that any of his daughters are getting married or even engaged.

His daughter is not getting married. This was a rumor that spread around the internet. If you google, it was Mario’s daughter on 6/12/93.

I haven’t gotten an email about anyone having Covid in a couple of weeks and the mandate was lifted 2 weeks ago already.
It is amazing like day and night when you go out to eat, drink and dance and it is like 2019 but you run to a store and people are double masked and wearing gloves.
I am all for the kids not wearing them as it is hot in the schools and I wouldn’t want to get a call that my kid passed out as I have one that has done that before not even with a mask on.

Re: Masks encouraged but not required in NY schools
Oh and I have a friend in FL whose daughter just graduated high school. No masks, parents on the field while bleachers were packed with other family and friends. NY, only 2 people allowed per student and all have to wear masks. Graduation class split up so the kids can’t even graduate with their friends.

Where do you shop that you constantly see people double masked and with gloves? I have not seen that at all since like June of 2020.

Me either. I've literally not seen a single person ANYWHERE that's double masked or wearing gloves. She's so FOS. She just says random things in order to push her narrative.

I guess I should take a picture next time. SMH. Our consultant at Home Depot just the other day was double masked like she was a few months ago when we went to her. Do you want her name? Go take a look since you don’t believe me? You can go where we went last night where maybe 4 people out of hundreds was not masked. I am sure you don’t believe that either.

I still see plenty of double maskers and people with gloves. We travelled recently and there were a bunch of double maskers on the plane.
