How many of you remember those “workout” machines your parents or relatives may have had where you’d strap a leather band around your thighs and butt, turn it on, and let it do it’s duty while you felt the burn?

Well, they are apparently back, and all the rage at some workout hotspots nationwide. But, according to experts, good old-fashioned exercise is still the best way to lose weight and stay in shape.

Some note that while these vibration platforms may be effective for high-performance athletes, they caution that they may be risky, especially with regard to causing injury if misused by non-professionals.

They go on to suggest that they are actually not for recommended use by the general public, who they suggest are better off with a regular routine of effective activity and a good diet, which most professionals engage in anyway.

However, others, such as some researchers suggest that these machines can be used by the public, and should be, especially if it motivates them to stick to a fitness regimen and if it makes them feel better. After all, they note, that the information and evidence concerning the associated risk remains inconclusive. But, they do add, that the machines should be used in varying degrees depending on the users experience.

Fitness professionals further add that these machines offer individuals and excellent way to trim and tone their abdomens and hips, adding that a 10-minute treatment offers the equivalent of one hour of strength training and core conditioning.

Still, the manufacturers of these machines caution that they should not be used by those who a pregnant, epileptic or who are using a pacemaker.
