I'd fire her just wearing body glitter.

lol, it's usually on Friday's after her CRAZY night at Marqee... she prob comes in straight from there and the glitter hasn't sweated off yet..

the thought of going out then to work makes me wanna jump in front of a truck. Maybe once she has a talking to she'll realize she's acting like a dope.

 | Re: Assistant Dilema Maybe she just doesn't get that what worked in college won't work in business. Sit her down and talk to her.
Honestly I know SO many people from college who just had NO clue what the real world would be like...honestly and acted like children at 20 or 22 years old. I guess I saw it more clearly b/c I was a few years older but I was like "How will these kids survive"

She's not trying to hide her behavior,, maybe she really doesn't know she's wrong, or thinks shes cute and can get away with it.

Some people who are relaly smart in one way are really dumb in anohter wya

ME (11:01:58 AM): if you're sick.. stay home and we will talk on monday

HER (11:04:34 AM): no im coming in bc i cant make phone calls and i need to come in anyway to get stuff and im HOPING it goes away

ME (11:04:53 AM): if you have food poisoning it won't go away

HER (11:04:58 AM): you need to make work phone calls?

HER (11:05:01 AM): theres nothing left in me to throwup so it has to be done soon

ME (11:05:08 AM): you have a computer.. you can email

HER (11:05:27 AM): no i need to call my dad i need to go to the doctor this is not normal

HER (11:05:48 AM): i always get service in my aptment but im not for some reason so i need to come in and use the landline

HER (11:06:21 AM): i dont think i have a doctor in nyc yet so i need to talk to him

ME (11:06:25 AM): you had service at 4:30 in the am when you text me

HER (11:06:42 AM): trust me i wouldnt be on aim if i could call you right now

HER(11:08:04 AM): anywway im pulling myself together and coming so i will see you in a little....bye

ME (11:08:27 AM): pri.. if you are sick.. please use a pay phone.. don't come in to just call your dad.

HER (11:12:09 AM): i wanted to get my friend's book as well since im going to ct tomorrow ...but i dont know if its worth it i pretty much want to kill myself

HER (11:13:53 AM): should i come in if i stop throwing up? i honestly think it might be done

HER (11:16:30 AM): not to mention im terrified of wat my email box will look like if i dont come in for a whole day

ME (11:18:08 AM): Look, you text me at 4:30 in the morning and judging from what you said it is pretty obvious that you were drinking. Please don't under-estimate my intelligence. I suggest you take the rest of the day and we'll discuss this on monday.

HER (11:20:10 AM): i very much remember texting you about being sick and brooke i always drink this isint a drinking thing and im flipping out cuz i know you think it is....

ME (11:20:48 AM): you don't text your boss at 4:30 in the morning unless your judgement is impaired.

HER (11:22:33 AM): well i was highly paranoid about the fact that i was so sick and wouldnt be able to come in...to be honest i would think of you as the type that i actually would call and say im sorry im too hungover

HER (11:22:48 AM): but im not!

ME (11:23:07 AM): i would think so too.. that's why I was surprised about the scallop story.

ME (11:23:15 AM): your phone worked at 4:30.. now it doesn't

ME (11:23:26 AM): that's bizarre to me. why didn't you im me at 9am if you were so paranoid?

HER (11:23:43 AM): I WOULDNT BE ON AIM I AM FLIPPING OUT THAT I CANT CALL YOU

HER (11:24:20 AM): I'm using my neighbor's computer! i don't even know them!

ME (11:24:50 AM): if you want to come in, come in.. i am to busy to go back on forth about this.

HER(11:31:09 AM): fine, im coming in. But this is so unfair - im not a jerk and i care a lot about what im doing with you guys and im already flipping out without having to throwup in front of you to believe me.

ME(11:31:54 AM): come in.. stop iming me.. you're making it worse

HER (11:34:16 AM): fine. itll take little while but im coming.

I honestly don't think a talk will help.

I would fire her. I think you're doing her a huge favor by doing so. She'll learn REALLY fast that it's not cool to act like a drunken school girl at work...it's not a bar...it's an office.

A talk might meet you with this
from her. Trust me, I'm with Susan, fire her. |

 | Re: Assistant Dilema I would let her go. This kind of behavior when she is only with you for 2 month is inexcusable. If she does this now just think of what she will pull when she is there a year or so and thinks her job is locked in solid.

 ETA:
If she using someone elses computer why couldn't she just say "can i use your phone?"

After reading all this, and because I am a softee (maybe sucker, I guess
) I'd probably do just that. Talk to her about all the points you have made here, and tell her that she needs to realize it is a job and change her behavior, or you will have to let her go. |

It doesn't sound to me like it'll work. But if you want to do that, for your karma, do so. And then let her go the next time...put the warning in writing. She's not gonna change...

 | Re: Assistant Dilema Brooke, get the ok to fire her azz and get it over with. It's crap and everyone knows it including her.
She had scallops? Or was it clams? Or was it drunk texting?

You can fire her for no reason other than you want to hire someone who is more professional. You don't even have to tell her that.

If you want to give her a chance, give he a chance, but I think you're wasting your time.

 | Re: Assistant Dilema I would give her a second chance, but explain to her that her behavior has been unacceptable all along, this is just the icing on the cake. And let her know you were considering firing her just for this. That you think she is really smart and very capable, but she's not applying herself and her unprofessional dress, correspondence and hygeine will not be tolerated in the future.
Tell her also that you are not her friend or her mother, you are her boss - you expect to be treated with respect and will treat her with the same respect as soon as she shapes up.

Then give her a finite amount of time and meet again to discuss. Chances are, she'll leave if she's not going to change.

I agree with everything she said. She ain't gonna change from one talk...trust me!! She needs to mature and a hard leason (like getting fired) will do that!

 | Re: Assistant Dilema I wouldn't fire her right away... giver her a warning and have a discussion with her about what professional behavior is and what you expect from her. Yes she should know this, but since you said she is a hard worker I would give her another chance. Once you have laid down the law with her, give her a certain time frame (2 weeks?) to get her act together. If she doesn't start acting professionally, then I would fire her. |
