Such a POS
I hope this mother didn’t
I also think we can’t assume anything
It’s a very tragic story :(
That poor girl was probably terrified and gasping for air
It makes me so sick and sad at the same time

Re: Girl dies in hot car on LI

Here’s what I’ve heard from a reliable source.

Girl was left in the car for an hour. Mom found her in the car and brought her in the house and tried for THREE hours to revive her. Finally she called for help. When the girl arrived at the hospital, three hours later, her temperature was 110 degrees!

Judging - sorrynotsorry
That mother sucks. 3 MINUTES is too long to not call 911. HOW do you wait that long to call for TRAINED help? Maybe they could have saved her.

See I had a feeling it was more than 10 minutes. I posted a demo where they were in a car for almost 30 min and still fully conscious.
10 minutes is not a long time, not enough to die. Hell sometimes it takes that long for my AC to kick in in my car on a day like today after the car has been in the sun all day and I barely break a sweat

I hate to jump to conclusions but it definitely points to trying to cover something up. Why would you not call immediately unless you're trying to cover you're own ass? I just can't wrap my head around any of this though. Poor child.

Sorry but if she waited 3 hrs to call for help after forgetting her special needs child in the car......how do you just forget? How do you not call for help right away. She deserves to be judged if what is being said is true.

I'm so disgusted reading this. I guarantee this POS mother thought she could revive her child on her own, and then not get in "trouble". POS sounds harsh, but to not call for help for 3 hours...yes you are a POS. I hope her other kids are taken from her because that is just NEGLECTFUL. From the picture of their family I saw on FB, they have 5 kids total. I don't even know how, as a sibling, you can move on from this. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Someone said reports said this was routine and not suspicious. . . So I guess law enforcement didn't see anything wrong with her waiting 3 hours? Doesn't quite make sense. The whole thing sounds weird. I don't know what you'd be trying to "cover up" or how a body would still be 110 degrees 3 hours after being removed from the car. The whole thing has me scratching my head.

They may not have known any of this preliminarily.
Maybe this is all coming out in the investigation

Re: Girl dies in hot car on LI

I have a special needs child (pretty severe, intellectual and physical) and this is my worst nightmare. I turned his car seat around exactly at 2 because he was non verbal and I was terrified if he was rear facing and I couldn’t see him, that I would forget about him (never actually happened). My usual “routine” getting kids and bags etc out of the car is that I sometimes get him out first bc he needs all my assistance, then go back for my other two (when they were in car seats) and my bags. But sometimes, I would get them first and come back for him. I never forgot any of them, but I can honestly see how something similar could have happened...maybe she helped the other two in, and meant to come back for her..it’s so easy to get distracted :(. I’m any case, as a special needs parent, this is literally my worst nightmare. Rest In Peace, poor girl.

Eta just read the “waiting three hours” part. Unacceptable, and tragic :(.

Even if she did try to get out, the child safety locks might have been on and she can't open the door from the inside anyway.

Because of this I had a conversation with my girls and went over some safety notes with them along with asking them questions of what ifs. I have child safety locks on the back doors but the front doors are not lock. I asked them what they would do in a situation like that and they all said they would go to the front and open the doors. My girls are 8 and 11.
Do you put child safety locks on all your doors? I know it states the girls had special needs but I'm wondering if she thought about unlocking the drivers door.
My prayers are with the family. I can't even imagine what they are all going through.

I don't use child locks at all. I hate them actually.
DD is 8 now and she knows enough not to open the door while I'm driving. She's strapped into her booster in a seat belt, she isn't moving around the backseat freely anyway.
I can see maybe using them with toddlers or something, but not at 8 years old.
I find those things to be a huge hazard god forbid of something like this or getting trapped in the car in an accident or whatever.

My so's son is special needs, and we use child locks and he is 10 because he does things like try to open the door while we are driving. And I honestly could see him not being able to get out if he fell asleep even though we've had similar convos with them about going out through the front though.

I’m trying not to judge and I do not have kids.

That being said, I always make sure I can find my cats within minutes of getting home.

If anyone was unconscious, I would make sure to call an ambulance right away. I had this situation once before at a university party. Some guy passed out and was puking. I think I was the only one to say, hey, call the medics in a few minutes of it happening.

This sounds like a cover up.

Seems like the poster who said this just knows the family.

TBH, 3 hours trying to revive someone sounds unbelievable. That's a LONG time. Long past the adrenaline rush and the panic to subside. And if her temperature was still 110 that many hours later she was long dead before the mother found her so there was probably never any hope for her, unfortunately.

Very tragic. But a lot of this new information does not sound right.

But I still try to reserve judgement because as a mother I can't imagine that situation and I honestly don't know what I'd do.

ETA Still no one knows specifically what kind of special needs this girl had.

If all of that is true, I'm sure they or a neighbor have cameras that can prove or disprove when they arrived home, etc. The 3 hours of CPR seems a little too far fetched for me. There were other kids in the house. I'm sure more details will come out.

my gut reaction/thought is not 3 hours of cpr. i'm guessing 3 hours of cpr, ice bath, etc...

but then it says that her temp was 110* when she got to the hospital.

i'm left scratching my head.
poor baby

i only have one kid, he's not special needs... but accidents happen. i still beat myself up over DS getting burned when he was 18-months old. IT HAPPENED SO FAST! child protective services investigated me to the nth degree.

i judge myself, to this day. i try not to judge other parents for accidents... but this is starting to look suspicious, now.

I feel like there is more to this story then being reported. I’m not judging but the whole thing is just odd.

We are all assuming she died of heat exhaustion but she may have died from an underlying medical issue that wasn't known and died in the car and that is why she didn't get herself out.

Good point about the underlying medical condition.

From the pictures I have seen of this little girl, she does not appear to have a physical disability. I think she was on the autism spectrum based on a comment from a teacher who had her as a student at what appears to be DDI. The 15 year old neighbor kid (who appeared to be neurotypical) said he rode the bus with the girl and she was very talkative and sweet, so we know she was verbal.

Who really knows. It's sad all around. My son is older, but has Autism, and I think he would've been able to figure out how to move to the front seat and open the door IF child locks were in fact on when he was that age, even younger. However, this woman appears to have much older children also, so who knows if she even had child locks on in the car. I know 11 year old's with Autism, I know some lower functioning ones that I think could still find a way out of the car, or even figure out where the horn is etc. We don't know if the girl was still strapped in her seat belt, if she tried to get out, or what. I suspect we will never really know either, and I guess it's really none of our business, but only natural to be curious Chat Icon Chat Icon

Same with my autistic son... that's why we have the child locks engaged. However in this case the mom not calling for help right away, the whole thing just seems suspicious...
