..if a little breastfeeding boob is enough to distract them from their job or make them uncomfortable maybe it's not the right job for them.

He wasn't uncomfortable b/c he found it weird or wrong, etc. The article posted states he was afraid of being accused of sexual harassment/staring at her boob. That's a legitimate fear I think he SHOULD have as an officer with a job that is often a target for accusations should they do any "wrong".

unfortunately his lack of training and knowledge on bfing rights still puts him in a position to land a harassment complaint...

Do you seriously think that they cover EVERY SINGLE human right in the police academy? It would take FOREVER to train.... if you take ANY job, there will never be someone that knows EVERY SINGLE THING about the job... I'm a nurse, I don't know everything about healthcare.... i'm sure in your career you don't know every single thing either...

Its frustrating that people on here think that police officers have to be perfect at their jobs.... no one is perfect, we are human.

Should I ever need a police officer to help me...I hope they send the one that is more knowledgeable about serious legislation then the right of a woman to breast feed in public... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

This site seriously makes me laugh.....

breastfeeding in public is one of those hot button issues that has received a lot of publicity...so yes...that is a topic I would expect to be covered. I never said they should know EVERYTHING under the sun...but I think that's one that should absolutely be covered. Why? because people often get kicked out of places for breastfeeding...If the owner of an establishment has a dispute or calls the police over this, which I assure you probably happens more often than we know... as an officer they need to know the law in order to properly handle those situations. So...laugh all you want but expecting an officer to know basic civil rights doesn't seem like too much to ask. We're not asking him to know every international law or administrative law...this is basic civil rights here.

BF is a hot button issues in LIF I have never heard people in real life have issues only on here.

I have a cousin who is a lactation consultant and doula and is very vocal about things and even does not think its a hot button issue like many on here.

He probably shouldn't handcuff any females.
You know...just incase they claim he touched their a$$ inappropriately.
Or pull any woman over with a low cut blouse. Just incase they claim he was looking at their chest.

And I guess he knew this woman's history before going on the call.
Knowing she was "crazy" and all according to some people on NewsdayChat Icon

I do know her and her history and what she has put people thru what you are reading on Newsday is correct information. In her twisted mind this played out exactly how she wanted. who response to there own story on newsday SHE DOES, She always seems to turn things around and put it on other people. She is driving her children around with no license cause she hasn't paid child support.

IF anything he could of called for a female police officer which alot of them do when they do have to pat down someone of the opposite sex.

we can all go back and fourth on this breastfeeding or not is he wrong is she right blah blah blah

all I'm saying is she is crazy and a liar I know first hand what she has put a family thru and still is.

You seem to know her, and you are repeating all the other things I have read.

I read also that she had a suspended license. It's pretty ballsy (or crazy) if you ask me to bring attention to yourself and make a report against a police officer for this nonsense, when you have issues with the law and abiding it yourself. I also read things various other things with her and the law that I believe are likely true. And why does this matter? B/c where there is smoke there is often fire.

Wait...she was driving her baby around with a suspended license??? And then she brings more attention to herself by doing this? That's nuts Chat Icon

From some of the comments on newsday from people who know her she was also a private masseuse who gave sexual massages. Shall we open THAT can of worms? Chat Icon

Oh so the cop might've actually knew more about the situation than women on lif???? And knew enough to try to protect himself from someone that has already been known to use her body parts for more than nourishing a child????? shocking!!! How can that be, I thought that breasts were only made for feeding a child???? Chat Icon

Her actions personally have NOTHING to do with this case.

It's really PATHETIC that it's even coming into play and IMO an obvious ploy by the PD do sway public opinion of this woman.

I liken this to putting a rape victim's personal life into consideration when on trial. ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC.

I'm embarrassed to say we live in a society where women are treated this way.

I don't care if this woman was a hooker in the past. IT HAS NO BEARING ON THE CURRENT ISSUE.

Suffolk mom files complaint over public breastfeeding

I can't believe it's still going on but her past does have a bearing on this situation if she is a manipulator who tries to turn things around and blame others.

And I'm all for breast feeding but it does make me uncomfortable. So I remove myself from any situation that involves the exposed breasts of strangers the cop needed to do his job and being asked once should've been enough. She could've just put a blanket over herself. Or told the officers she needed to feed her child and asked if they could wait in another room if they had a problem with it.

exactly. character and all the other things being brought up don't change the FACT that if he said "cover THAT up" he infringed on her right. I don't understand what the debate is. regardless of what boneheaded things she did or what type of person she is or her intentions...if he said it...he was in the wrong. IT'S A LAW it's not open for translation nor is it only applicable to people we deem to be of good character only.

In this case....it is a "he said/she said" so you have NOTHING to go on other then her character.... just because she said he told her to "cover THAT up" doesn't mean that it is gold....

This isn't a he said/she said situation.
He did say it.

Taken from the follow up article.

"He didn't tell her to stop. He asked her to cover up," Hegermiller said.

Imo there is a difference between saying "cover THAT up" and something like "would you mind covering up?" - if you wanted to get technical, the quote you posted says he "asked" her to cover up. saying "cover that up" does not qualify as "asking" - it's more of an order. So it really kind of is he said/she said....

Annnnnnnnnnnd I'm done picking apart the English language and hypothetical mental states of various people I don't know. Chat Icon

And I'm sorry to single out your quote - please don't take it personally!
