Who is your homeowners insurance if you live close to water?
I live a mile from a bay (family owned house since 1953 w/o any issues). Not thrilled with my insurance wanting to come inspect & photograph my house outside & inside so I want options to drop them if they say I must have this done (i've had them since 08)...but because of my proximity to water no one will insure me...please recommend your company if you live w/i a mile of water! TIA!!!

Most carriers these days require a home inspection within 30 days of issuing the policy. Some go in, some don't, but since you are so close to the water, you don't have many options for insuring since most do not want to insure within a mile of the water.

Narr Bay requires an inside inspection with every house the insure. You could be in th emiddle of nowhere and they still want to go inside. They want to make sure there are no potential hazards, and everything is as you say.
Their premiums are very very competitive, esp since you are so close to the water, I would just comply.
I have them for my home insurance and they came in, and I sell their product, there is no way around it....

This is who we have as well.
I have a buried oil tank AND am 1/4 mile from the water. There are only 2 companies on the island that will insure us because of BOTH issues.
They came and did a quick inspection of the house when we got the insurance. It was nothing. And their rates are VERY good....even if we only had a choice of 2.

I understand them coming before giving me insurance to inspect...but I've been paying them for 4 YEARS and NOW they want to come? This is my issue...

we are less than a mile from water and we use USAA - you can use them if you, your spouse, either parents or grandparents were in the military

Same. We are on the South Shore and so State Farm would not isure us (even though we are not in a flood zone). I think they will insure North Shore though.

We’re insured through the AARP home insurance. Although I haven’t had to have a home inspection myself, let me tell you it’s common these days. If I were you, I’d let them do the inspection.

ALL insurance companies will inspect a dwelling after binding a policy with them.
Here is a partial list of companies currently writing NEW homeowners insurance business on Long Island for homes near tidal flood waters:
-Narragansett Bay
-Occidental
-Kingstone
-Ocean Harbor
-Utica
-Lloyd's of London (last resort)
Bear in mind, some people here have mentioned they have State Farm and Travelers and they live near the water. While these carriers at one point were taking on coastal risks, they are not at this time.
Contact an insurance broker to gain access to the above listed (and possibly other) carriers.

We have State Farm.
This reminds me, I have to get in touch with my guy again about flood insurance.
We were affected by Sandy.
Since we took out an SBA loan, and got FEMA assistance, it's a requirement moving forward.
