pain!!

since Friday, I have been having this terrible pain in my right upper butt/hip area. Everytime I stand up or bend down to get something it is excruciatingChat Icon

Could this be sciatica? Or what else could it be? Anything I can do to make the pain better? Am I allowed to use a heating pad?

Re: pain!!

yep sounds exactly like sciatica. I know that feeling well. Unfortunately, nothing I did ever really worked to relieve it except just laying still and waiting for it to pass.

i get this pretty often too. i asked my dr about it and he said it's normal. i've noticed it gets aggravated when i do a lot of bending (cleaning, laundry, etc...) or just from sleeping on my sides.

Re: pain!!

I don't think it's sciatica - it's at the back/top of your hip, right? Sciatica pain is much lower, at the bottom of your butt closer to where your leg bone meets your hips.

I had that, and it was awful. I think it had something to do with how I slept. I'd try and see a chiro Chat Icon

Re: pain!!

I get pain in my tailbone...lower back..butt sometimes too.

I think it's normal. It could be sciata or just your body preparing your birth!

I use a maternity belt when it hurts a lot and it feels better...I also have a body pillow. Sleep with lots of pillows at night. Your bones do hurt.

Call the dr if you're worried!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon If it helps, my pain comes and goes..some days worse than others, so at least it's not a constant pain. Hope you feel better!

Re: pain!!

I know the feeling well! Remember...you have two little babies in there!!

Sleeping has been a problem for me since the beginning. I'd turn to my left...uncomfortable. I'd turn to my right...uncomfortable. A body pillow will help a bit. I have a body Boppy pillow (you can buy one at BRU). I try to prop myself up with lots of pillows and don't forget to put one under your legs.

The tailbone pain is very uncomfortable. Try to sit as much as you can!

Hang in there!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: pain!!

what you are experiencing definitely sounds like sciatic pain :(

I had it severe in the beginning few months and couldn't walk; I went to the chiropractor every 3 days for 2 months until it subsided. The main problem is that your hips are adjusting and it takes the sciatic nerve with it. Heat/ice can relieve pain, but if you go to a reputable chiropractor who has EXPERIENCE with pregnant women, he/she should know how to relieve the pain.

It's now back and has been back since my 34th week... It's not 1/2 as bad as it was in the beginning, so I'm choosing to deal with it through the end. Good Luck!!

I have the same thing at the end of the day (I'm on my feet at work all day). It is sciatica. Not sure if you can use a heating pad, I usually just take it easy and I'm okay.

Re: pain!!

I use a heating pad with my back pain. I've spoken to several women who have used a heating pad when they were pregnant.

Re: pain!!

I had a pain that sounds A LOT like you are describing. It was like my tail bone but to the right side. In the middle of my butt cheek... just above my butt cheek.

It almost felt like something needed to be popped back into place. It hurt to get up and move and walk and sit, etc.

It lasted a while. IDK what it was from. But I def had it later on... I'd say around the late 20s weeks. So far it's been better. But IDK if it will come back. And IDK what it was.

I have a body pillow. NOTHING helped.

Re: pain!!

Make sure it's not a UTI!!!!!

I had THE worst pain around 17 weeks, too. I went for a massage and it made it 10x worse!!! I actually had to stay home because of the INTENSE pain. I almost wanted to go to the E.R.!!! I did use a heating pad, which helped slightly, but not much.

I went to doc and she tested for a UTI, which I never would have guessed, and that's exactly what it was!!!!! I was put on antibiotic and it helped.

Good luck and feel better!! Chat Icon
