Re: Did anyone hire a baby nurse/ night time help?

My thoughts are if you can afford one...go for it. I didnt have one for my first.... but seriously considering one this time around. DH said we could either get a baby nurse or a new dining room set... ha!!!

It is a personal decision and there should not be any judegements with way, that's how I feel.

Regardless, I am entitled to express my opinion and I am in no way "narrow-minded" (as another posted stated).

You are entitled to express and HAVE your opinion. I appreciate that having a baby nurse isn't for you - but you didn't end it there...you went on to basically judge those (including the OP) that do.

Let me tell you something. When I had my DD I had a normal delivery, I was perfectly capable physically to take care of my child. I hired a baby nurse MONTHS before I had the baby because it is what my family did (just as your family did not), and it was what I was told I would need...because I didn't know any different.

I had NO experience with babies - I had NO clue what I was doing. Like I said - physically I could have figured it out - I had the energy, sleep or no sleep, but emotionally...looking back, I think I was WAY too emotionally overwhelmed to handle the first few weeks on my own.

The baby nurse gave me a security and a confidence that I really needed at the time. It helped me, my family, my marraige, my daughter and my sanity.

THAT is my experience - so I guess the point is when you say or hint or whatever that people can take care of their own children through trial and error, or the family can help, or there is no need for help - you won't bond with your baby the same - or whatever other things were noted in this thread...is it MEANT to make moms like me feel less than? Cause that is what the intention comes off as.

If you had simply posted....I didn't have a baby nurse, it wasn't something I was comfortable with - then this debate wouldn't be going on.

I am not sure WHY people post with things like that anyway - she didn't ask if you DIDN't have a nurse...or what are the pros and cons of having a nurse.

I am getting tired of the flippant way people handle other peoples feelings around here lately (not only in this post). It's sad....

I will say again...a happy mom is a good mom - whatever you chose....just do what is right for you regardless of what other people say.

Of course I have to crash a dramatic post.
Nothing wrong with having a baby nurse- nothing wrong with using your own $$ to make your life easier. I don't judge people who have Blackberry's because they can work from dinner. It's how we roll- we like to make our lives easier. It's an extra, and obviously not a necessity. But why shouldn't someone be able to have an easier time adjusting to motherhood?
I don't understand when people justify judgementalism by saying it's their "opinion".
My opinion: Not for me.

This was all discussed a few posts back. The debate started way before I ever posted. And your right, there was no reason for a debate to get started b/c that was not what the original poster had intended with her question. My intention was not to make anyone feel inadequate as a mother if they wanted or needed to hire a baby nurse. It's everyone's personal choice.

This is one of the most brilliant things I have heard all day!!!

Even worse - I think they try to COVER UP judgements by stating it's just an opinion.

Re: Did anyone hire a baby nurse/ night time help?

In response to the original post:

We chose not to use a baby nurse with our first. I had a difficult pregnancy, a scheduled c-section, a painful recovery, and lots of problems BF. But I wouldn't change a thing. DH was extremely supportive and helpful, and we figured everything our for ourselves. The swaddling, BF, pumping, bathing- we made lots of mistakes, and I cried a whole bunch, but in my mind, it was all part of the learning process. I'm sure a baby nurse would've made things easier, but I never expected it to be easy. I knew I'd go without sleep for months and I survived. We won't get a baby nurse with the second either.

However, a cleaning lady would've been fantastic! Someone to clean my floors and bathrooms, do my laundry- that would've made things much easier!

Best of luck, whatever your decision. We all do what we need to as new moms to survive!

Can you please FM agency information? I am back from the hospital with my first, but my c-section is still healing, I haven't slept in a week, and DD is almost too much for me, DH AND MIL, who is leaving Tuesday anywayChat Icon
I would probably just need someone some nights, just to catch up on sleep (I am not BFing).
Thank you so much.

I have never even heard of this! I have had 3 babies and I don't see a need for this. I guess I had "easy" babies though. I didn't even have help from any family or friends. It might be easier than you are excepting.

I don't see the need either. I guess if you had multiples and you really needed the help then yeah. But if you are just doing it to get rest, well then heck, you'll need a baby nurse for a few months because they don't sleep through the night for a while Chat Icon Not to mention, I don't think I would want someone doing everything for my beautiful little baby. I think being invovled in every aspect of a baby's daily routine is all part of the bonding experience Chat Icon

I had a very hard time with the c-section and BFing at the same time. I am so thankful DH took 2 weeks off. He did EVERYTHING. I just took care of the baby.

I could see hiring someone. There is no shame to it!

Re: Did anyone hire a baby nurse/ night time help?

Gosh, I am hiring a baby nurse for 6 weeks!!! I don't feel bad about it at all- Here is how I justify it.

1. My dh will have to go back to work almost immediately and his hours will be super long.
Why shouldn't I have a second set of hands like everyone else?

2. I can afford it. I make fiscally responsible decisions in other areas of my life, so I can have this luxury. So why not?Chat Icon
