Who's made the switch from Optimum to Verizon Fios?
Just was curious to hear why and or why not.
We have DVR now with Optimum and a few On Demand channels also. Any pros or cons with Verizon?

We switched.
I hated Cablevision so the switch was easy for me.
We did notice the internet is slightly slower though.
We have no issue with the phone service.
We signed up for the $64.99 package (tv, phone, internet) for 6 months then it's about $100 or less. But they made mistakes in the billing already. DH deals with them. He told me he would switch back to Cablevision if we still have billing issues. I HATE Cablevision so it would be horrible for me.
For me, I love the channels that were no longer available with Cablevision.

Verizon has the same channels. TLC, HGTV, Fox, CBS, etc... some in both regular and HD. They do have different channel numbers though but you get a list of all of the channels and numbers.
There is a way to find local traffic and weather for your town (it's a function on the remote control). In addition Channel 49 has local and NYC weather.

We made the switch to FIOS (for cable, internet & phone) almost two years ago and are happy with their service. The only two chanels that we don't get are MSNBC & Chanel 12.

We tried and scheduled the installation with them on three separate occasions...only to be stood up each time! Each time we called and complained; apologizes up and down (after waiting on the phone for literally hours), only to be stood up again. Oh, and they had Cablevision turn off our phone, so we were stood up, and without a normal phone.

DH wants to switch so badly but Fios is not available in our area yet. They keep sending flyers and DH keeps calling and they keep saying not yet.

I typed out a long message and the server was too busy so now I have to retype it.
We switched. Our triple play was up so at the time, it was a better deal with FIOS.
I love the tv - they have a lot more HD channels that I actually like to watch than we had when we had Optimum. I like that the on demand for HBO is included with your subscription to HBO. I also like the other free on demand items they have that Cablevision didn't seem to have (ABC, CBS, NBC).
DH doesn't like that we don't get the MSG channel in HD since it's owned by Cablevision - he likes to watch the Rangers.
We really preferred the telephone features that were included through Optimum - free call forwarding, the caller id on the tv, the fact you can have cell phone ring and the home phone ring when you get a call).

Also BBC America and some other specialty channels.
I also love Fios. Our internet is about the same, and we have only had one billing issue and it was resolved very quickly over the phone. The quality of the TV service is far superior IMO.

We did! We love it! I actually posted about it b/c I was so happy with the speed of the internet -- for us, it was MUCH faster than Optimum. We love their DVR, we love how the channels are grouped together by subject. You can search for shows - I just love it!

No it does not. It's only the backup system plugged into the outlet. It's only pennies.

This info actual came to us via a real estate agent selling a house with a Fios box. I wonder if he fell for the Cablevision scare tactics?
BTW: somewhat off topic, but DH and I were in the Cablevision Store on Monday. The couple ahead of us was switching to Verizon and turning in their Cablevision box. The saleswoman told them that if they chose to switch back to Cablevision before their first year with Verizon was up, that Cablevision would pay the fee Verizon charges for canceling before the end of your contract.

I switched and hated verizon..and the customer service! IT ended up being more expensive also...plus they have contracts. We are going back to cablevision!

I will never switch to FIOS because they don't offer MSG.
So no Islanders, Rangers, Knicks, or Nets if you have FIOS.
