I spoke to a teacher in my district and she said it's really not as much that parents complain about what teacher their child gets but more that they complain about certain children that are in the same class as their child.
I do believe this. Our grade level happens to be chock full of children with behavior problems, and holds the reputation as such within the actual school itself. Children without IEP's that are just overall huge behavior problems, and very disruptive in school. Unfortunately my DD has had several of them in her class the past couple of years. So, I can see parents getting upset about it. I know I do! But, I don't call and complain, because if we switched, it would just be another class with another set of problems, since like I said, our grade is chock full of them. I feel a bit bad for my DD though, because it's been a circus the past couple of years, and she is just getting tired of it. Such is life though!

I'm OOS, but we get teacher assignments 1 month before school starts and bus assignments 2 weeks before school. We also don't have to supply anything for school except maybe an art smock. Our district supplies everything else.
That must be nice! And I bet your taxes are a lot less than what we pay on LI too.
Makes you wonder....
I'm in an area of CT where the taxes are pretty high compared to other surrounding towns, but definitely less than what my family pays on LI.

We get the new class assignment on their final report card. So for example, DS is in 2-2, most f his 1st grade class is in 2-4, some friends are in 2-3.
We don't find out the teacher until DS goes to school on the first day and then comes home and tells us who it is.

I'm in Queens so DOE. My kids get their teachers the first day of school. Lol. All we have is the class numbers. Principal sent home note with report cards in June that said students will get their assigned teachers on the first day of school as changes are happening over the summer. The letter said not to call the school and have a safe and happy summer. It doesn't really matter to me honestly but I am not at school that much bc of work so what will be will be.
When I was young, we did get our teachers with our report cards, but I never remember parents or students complaining or asking to be switched or anything like that. It was just unheard of. You get what you get and you don't get upset.

When do your kids get their teachers?
I dont know the teachers either, but I like to find out whos in the class. We also recd a letter from the teacher today..so cute.
