parents, teachers, or anyone who is around kids...
In general, do you think the kids of this generation are worse than we were?
Meaning drugs, sex, violence, lack of manners?
Maybe it's because I was not around kids directly until I started teaching...but now that I am , the things they do now shock me!
Their dress, their mouths, the things they are into disgust me and worry me for when I am a parent.
Just wanted to see others thoughts

YES I do....I think much of it has to do with the media...the media now really pushes the envelope with sex, offensive language etc even in prime time. I also think it has to do with the way parents monitor what their children are doing...many parents are just not watching their kids.
I teach in NYC...in 3rd grade these kids know more about sex, drugs etc then I did in middle school and beyond. It amazes me.

most definitely.
I think especially in this country, some kids are left alone most of the time without no parental guidance.
this leads them to grow too fast and without a sense of what rules and regulations are.

I used to teach 2nd and 3rd grade. These kids know soo much compared to us when we were little. They know about sex at an earlier age and they are more into clothing, dating, etc, then we ever were.

Like sex for example....I didn't even know what that really was until 8th grade and that was because of taking health DH is a teacher in NYC and they are doing it in the stairwells...And oral sex is considered no big deal...DOn't even get me started...this is why STD are so rampant

yeah... i've noticed that they are just so much faster than i was in EVERY aspect.
they want to grow up so fast, they dress so differently- llike they are in their 20's.
what is the rush i ask you? once you grow up, u want to be a kid again, at least that is how i feel.. I mean dont get me wrong, i'm enjoying my twenties, but i still reminisce about being 16 and having absolutely no responsibility!

They are much worse..they are like teenagers by age 10, and think that they are adults at 15! As a group, they have much less respect for their elders.

In terms of drugs no, i don't think so. But in other areas- it is definitely worse - especially when it comes to respect. Kids have no fear anymore. They know they can't be touched.

OMG, way worse. I was just discussing this with my building principal. These kids walk by teachers and administrators with such disregard- like they own the world. It is so terrible.

It is far worse. It is shocking to me to hear kids curse in front of adults and also the language that is oming out of thrie mouths. I am 31 years old and there certain things I cannot bring myself to do. I can't even see myself swearing in front of older people it is just not me.

OMG, it is so much worse, esp. with Sex. Yes, when I was in high school there were people who did some riske' things, like make out with two guys in one night, etc. But, now all the kids give BJ's to their friends, get involved in group sex, videotape sexual encounters, brag about sex positions. That Miss Nevada girl is living proof. They have instant access to everything pornographic on the Internet. They know too much.
