Don't be surprised if the curve goes back up within the next two weeks because of all the "Idontgivea$hits" that celebrated the Passover/Easter Holidays with outside family.

Wouldnt be surprised.

But unless those people were sick, they wouldn't be spreading anything, right? I mean, to get others sick, they would need to be sneezing and coughing their infected droplets all over. If no one was sneezing and coughing, there is hope.

I don't know of anyone that had get togethers on Easter. No one in my realm of friends shared that on social media. Maybe they did and didn't share, who knows.

I don't personally know anyone who had get togethers yesterday either. I did hear lots of people say the parks were jam packed though. I just wish DiBlasio would close them already. People can walk/run/ride bikes around their neighborhood. They don't have to go to a park.
I am very hopeful that after 3 weeks of lockdown, numbers show we are making a difference. It is a positive sign- it took Italy longer for the numbers to plateau.
I don't know. Maybe I am being too hopeful. But I can't be so doom & gloom all the time. I have to believe we are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. My mental health is diminishing more and more by the day. I can't go to those dark places where this doesn't end until there is a vaccine. I would never get out of bed.

This. My friend is a RN in Manhattan and delivers babies. They test everyone delivering as well as their support person. A few days ago she had a patient with no symptoms who tested positive. Her support person also tested positive with no symptoms.

Right, If you were one of those that have zero symptoms. But unless you are coughing or sneezing droplets into the air, you wouldn't theoretically be infecting peoplex right? Because droplets from you don't just get exhaled in your carbon dioxide. If they did, there would be a lot more people infected than the numbers we have seen in densely populated areas like NYC. Where it stands at 0.0121 percent of the population infected (as of today anyway)

Many people cough and sneeze though and if no other symptoms of Covid 19 you could also think you are fine.

Experts say the virus can travel 13 feel or more. It can travel on shoes. Heathcare workers taking every precaution get infected. People are in denial.

They are not exactly sure what constitutes droplets. There was a choir in Washington and they all practiced distancing by 6 feet and used sanitizer. There were 60 there. I believe over half got sick. They were singing, I get it. But people talk loudly and an article I read said that some people exhale more than others. That leads me to think that more than coughing and speaking is involved.

I mean if you go on public transport and distance yourself from others on the LIRR, someone could be speaking too loudly or spitting more. They just don't know at this point.

Yes, 45 got sick, 2 died. No one was sick or ill they said while they were there. Scary.

Not to mention most Easter/Passover gatherings would likely include children who are usually gross.

I can tell the kids not to touch their face 500x but they still do it constantly. And then will touch the same faucets, doorknobs, railings, serving utensils, remotes, etc as 20 other people at a party.

If they closed the parks all those people would be on the sidewalks, closer to one another. Because we all know closing the parks won't keep people home. The parks have more space to spread out. Which was one of the reason the governor and mayor kept mentioning the parks. They have acres and acres to spread out.

I'm speaking as someone that lives in the city. We don't have backyards to escape to. The parks are our backyard.

Actually, no. And that is the part that people do not realize.

Anyone who does have the virus; doesn't necessarily have to have ANY symptoms and still spread it to someone else.

I still don't understand what people are not getting about this. Do they need to be hit over the head. And yes, people did Easter gatherings...my mom's neighbors had their son, daughter in law and BABY over. Inside the house. My mom says she sees them go over most days.
And as for the not sneezing comment, I don't know where you are getting your facts, not even getting into that, but I like a lot of people, suffer from allergies. I sneeze and cough all the time.

Do you think we will be able to get back into our offices by end of May?

My agency is considered essential right now. We have three offices. Two of the three have @ 40 employees. We are only permitted into the office 1x per week. We are given a time range on that day. No more than 3 people are in at one time. Each of those people have offices in different hallways, or are at opposite ends of the buildings.

This is after our executive director spoke with someone in the governor's office to ask for a waiver to be considered essential. We were told we are essential, and were given the above instructions.

I believe come May they are going to slowly open things and start letting people go back to work. Probably stagger people so there's not a full workforce at once. Or restaurants maybe open at half capacity. We will see.

Relax with your nasty comments. I get it, I understand that it CAN be spread by people who have no symptoms. My point was, germs get spread through droplets from people coughing and sneezing. So if people are together and NOT coughing or sneezing (not everyone has allergies FYI), then how exactly are they going to get sick? Because disease just doesn't get expelled from breathing, like I said. IF they did, then millions upon millions in NYC alone would be infected right now. Viruses don't get transferred from skin. I'm not an idiot. I get how it works. I'm NOT condoning people getting together in ANY way, whatsoever. My point was, just because people DID get together, doesn't mean we will see this HUGE UPTICK like people are saying, 2 weeks from now. People would rather just be nasty and negative ALL the time. It's getting old. I digress though.

Yes, that's why you have to be super vigilant about hand washing, not touching your face, etc. They have been saying that since the beginning.

Because you don't have to cough or sneeze just to spread droplets. It is how your saliva is spread which can be a hundred different scenarios. Using same utensil, touching your face, wiping your mouth with your hand or napkin; then touching an object, then someone else touches that same object; then that person touches their face somehow; and bingo, its spread. People do this more than they realize. People blowing their nose and not washing their hands after. Still fluids being spread.

Even someone smoking a cigarette; and blowing out the smoke. There are droplets of saliva in the exhale.

Point is the virus can be spread to an object and live on it for hours to days until the next victim touches it; and infects themselves say by touching their face somehow someway.

It is and can be spread so easily; and I do think so many do not realize that!

I would strongly recommend steering clear of anyone who smokes, regardless of droplets. Smoking and vaping are HUGE indicators for severe illness.

It is always jarring for me to see someone smoking (I always ask "people still do that?") but ESPECIALLY in the context of Covid. Get your nicotine gum or patch or whatever because if you smoke and get Covid you're not going to be in a good place. At all.

The problem is no one is staying home. I went out yesterday to try to buy lasagna to make for Easter and went to two different grocery stores (both had nothing I could find) but the stores were packed and people were definitely not standing 6 ft away from each other. They’re just going out in masks now, that’s all. So I kind of feel like what’s the point in extending this into the summer if people aren’t going to stay home anyway?

I was in Whole Foods in Lake Grove yesterday. I found there were workers together talking right where I needed to go and I had to bypass what I needed three times. I found it very difficult. Two workers chatting right where my vitamins were I needed and just stayed there. I decided to move on and not get what I needed. Definitely not staying 6 feet away.

What about people touching their face, lips, mouth whatever. I find it hard to believe that you can only catch this by sneezing and coughing.

Yes, that's why you have to be super vigilant about hand washing, not touching your face, etc. They have been saying that since the beginning.

Yup hand washing will always be the number 1 way to prevent illness in life no matter what is going around

This is how I see it spreading at a party. One person walks in who is asymptomatic, but positive. That person has already perhaps touched their mouth. Now he or she touches a chair to get past in, and then the door to the bathroom while going to wash their hands. 5 more people touch that same bathroom door. Maybe 3 others sit in that chair that was just touched. Then they all use the same serving utensils, touch other furniture, railings, food packaging, etc. Now everyone at that party has likely been exposed in some manner. Everyone goes home, some go shopping, not all wear gloves. And this is how it spreads from one person who didn't even know they were symptomatic.

As for the comment about it spreading around NYC - it is! Tens of thousands of people had it - and that's only the people who have been tested. My husband was sick 2 weeks ago. They told him they couldn't test him but to go home and self isolate. Did he have it? Maybe, maybe not. But if he did, he is not counted in the numbers. Thousands of other people are just like him. The actual numbers are much higher than the reported numbers.

And you spread it while wearing gloves too. Unless you change your gloves after every single item you touch in a store.

My point was that with 8.5 million people living in NYC, a lot more would have it than do if it was spread by breathing. I'm done debating this. Enjoy the sunshine today!

So every single person on this thread said the same thing I did and much more strongly. But for some reason you felt the need to pointedly call me nasty??????? I wasn't even responding to you specifically. You are something. I know you have this vendetta against me, don't know why. I assume we know each other in real life. Just say who you are. I'm glad you have time right now for such pettiness and name calling. I really hope you don't lose a family member from this like I and others have on this board. Show some compassion.
