From your profile, your baby is like 10 days old, correct? Um, I think you need to adjust your expectations. Maybe you blocked it out from your other children, but there's no schedule or sleeping through the night with a newborn. They wake when they're hungry and have stomachs the size of a walnut!

We just went through literally months of having to get up and even wake up my preemie DD to eat every two to three hours. I have two older DSs too, I know how much it sucks. Now at 4 months old (2 months adjusted age), she has been sleeping longer stretches at night. Like ten hours at her best. I agree with no lights or talking at night.

Isn't your baby like a few weeks old lol. You have some time...That first month I didn't sleep at night. That's what's having a newborn is like.

I was expecting to be tired but forgot how exhausting it was. Or maybe I'm just older now. I'm pushing 40 now and was 30 and 32 when my other two were born.

I was planning to get night help but I am nursing and not sure how helpful it would be so I'm going to continue taking nights. I have daytime help.

my son is 3 1/2 weeks old and the first two weeks he was up every 2-3 hours the last 5 days or so he has been sleeping from 830/930-130/2 and eats and then is up again for feedings around 3/330 and 530/6

Last night wasn't as bad. DD woke up around 11:30, 3:30 and then 6am. I can handle that.

10 days old? It's all about survival. You are going to be tired for a long time. It's part of those early days, weeks, months. We were very lucky with DS because he started STTN at 11 weeks. So when DD turned 11 weeks, I kept waiting for her to start sleeping. She didn't. 12 weeks, 13, etc etc etc. Finally at around 6 months, we did CIO. She's an awesome little sleeper now at 21 months old!

You forget how hard it is in the beginning, but you'll survive! We all do. Hang in there.

I totally forgot! Today is a much better than yesterday. At least I got a few blocks of 2-3 hrs of sleep last night.

The day and night confusion is rough! My first had that and I'd be up pacing with her for hours. My younger one didn't and it was so much easier bc I just nursed her in bed and she went right back down. Like others said, keep it dim, don't talk, don't even make eye contact! Keep it boring at night and hopefully she'll learn the difference quickly.

It is so hard in the beginning. DD was a premie so she went down to one bottle a night at around 4 months and slept through at 5 and a half. DS went from multiple bottles to sleeping through the night at about 3 months.

Re: When did your baby stop waking up multiple times per night?

Both my nurslings woke up every 2 hrs at night for the first month or so. Then after that they would usually do 2 feedings overnight. Both had horrid sleep regressions from 4-6 months. After that my son started sleeping 9-7 and never looked back. My daughter didn't reliably sleep those types of hours till around 15 months and still has her weeks here and there at 20 months . Her worse sleep was 12-14 months where she would wake up multiple times at night and then refuse to go back down and no amount of CIO worked. Definitely the harder baby as far as sleeping has gone.

Re: When did your baby stop waking up multiple times per night?

Both of my DDs were STTN at 10 weeks old. Both started sporadically pulling all nighters around 8 weeks but by 10 weeks they were consistently STTN.

ETA: Before that they woke up every 2 hours and DD #1 had horrible colic so she used to scream. Both were bottle fed.

The newborn stage can be brutal. Sending you hugs and your baby some Chat Icon Chat Icon prayers for tonight

I had my first at 33, my second at 37 and my third at 38. I can't tell you how much harder it was this time around and I absolutely think it is because of my age. You will get through it. You just have to be patient. I FF so I had my DH help me get through the nights on the weekends which definitely helped. If its getting really bad, maybe pumping for a few bottles so your DH can feed the baby will really help you out.

Re: When did your baby stop waking up multiple times per night?

DS1 was 6 months when he dropped down to waking once per night and 7 months when he started STTN. He was also in our arms for the first 6 months because despite trying numerous things to get him to sleep in anything else, the only way any of us got any sleep was when he was in our arms. DS2 started STTN at 10 weeks old, but it was in the swing. I was so happy he was sleeping in anything other than our arms/bed and STTN at an early age.

I'm sure being older and taking care of 2 other kids only makes the exhaustion worse. I was 29 when I had my first and had just turned 33 with my second. This time I'll be 38 and I'm sure I'll be struggling with the exhaustion even more. It will probably be a while until you get longer stretches especially with EBFing, but hopefully the frequent waking will pass soon. Congrats!

I'm still waiting at 18 months Chat Icon Seriously though, it is completely normal and will be this way for a while. She will eat when she's hungry and sleep when she's tired. Just keep doing what you are doing and readjust your expectations , I found that helps. Hang in there !

I had a baby nurse at night for the first 2 weeks and it was amazing. I was also exclusively breastfeeding. She would come get me when it was time to feed and I would literally feed DD and hand her back to the nurse who would then burp, change her and get her back to sleep. I was getting a good 4 hours worth of sleep in between feedings.
I definitely plan on getting a baby nurse for my 2nd as well.

By 7 months my son was still waking up frequently at night time... I kept thinking he was teething, or hungry, or something... but he wasn't. That's when I sleep trained him. Now when he wakes up its usually for a reason.

4 month sleep regression was REAL for us and it was a nightmare. I mean up like... hourly. And of course, it's right around the time I returned to work. I was a zombie.

Have you tried white noise? Swaddling? I swear this combo is what got my DD sleeping long stretches at night.
