when did you know you were ready to start TTC?

just thought I'd ask, DH & I won't start trying until after September this year (anniversary trip coming up), but wanted to hear when you guys knew you were ready to start trying??

I think I'm finally ready (mentally) but I was hoping to lose 10 pounds before we started TTC, since getting married, I feel like a big butterball Chat Icon

I think we knew that since DH is a little older (32) and we want 2-3 kids that if we wanted to do this while it was still easy to run around after them, this was the time to do it Chat Icon

oh ok, do you mind me asking how old you are? I'm 28, my DH is 33, and DYING to have kids!!!! I kept thinking we should wait, but the reason I changed my mind is I'd like to try and have our first before I turn 30 in January 2010 AND w/ my sister having her 2nd baby this year in November, I was hoping that our kids wouldn't be too far apart in age (her first will be 4 this year).

I'm just interested in everyone's reasoning..........I can't help but feel sometimes like "am I sure I'm ready????" but all my friends keep telling me you're never really READY, since it's such a life changing experience. I can keep making a million and one excuses to wait to TTC, but I decided now is as good a time as any!! Chat Icon

thanks for sharing!!

I am in the same boat. I am 29 and DH is 35! When we first got engaged, we said we would start TTC right away. Then when we got married, we both agreed we should enjoy life being married for at least a year. Now, our one year just passed and it has been well, I want to wait until after we go to disney for our one year, and I have to change insurance and find a Dr., and I want to lose weight first. I agree; I could totally go through a million reasons to wait, but then time is also going fast and we are getting older, and you do want to be active in their lives... So..... I agree with you. It is scary; very scary, and you are never completely ready but you learn... Good luck and lots of baby dust to us all!!! (Soon). Chat Icon

I'm 30 and my DH is going to be 41 in August and we'll be married 4 years in Oct. All I thought about when we were first married was baby, baby, baby!! Then I wanted to enjoy married life for a while - then I got pregnant last July and miscarried in August and have been TTC since then and I want it now more than ever.

Baby Dust to all!!!

Re: when did you know you were ready to start TTC?

DH and I are both 28. I always thought I would wait until I was 30, but just last year my mom was diagnosed w/breast cancer. It was around that time that I started to feel like we'd try right after our 1st anniversary (which was in May). I really want my kids (at least one of them) to have the chance to know his/her amazing grandmother. I'm a teacher, which is why I'm so eager to have a spring baby, so I have extended time with the baby over the summer.

Re: when did you know you were ready to start TTC?

We got married at 35. We started TTC at 36 only to have a few roadblocks thrown in our direction. I got PG at 37 and will deliver at 38. My issues were not age related, but our rationale for TTC was.

Re: when did you know you were ready to start TTC?

When DH and I got married, I knew I wanted kids someday, but definitely didn't feel like we had to start trying right away. A little over a year ago, I started thinking more and more about kids. I spoke to my OB/GYN about TTC (we were thinking about starting in the next 6-12 months) and had genetic testing done to make sure everything was ok.

Our initial plan was to TTC once we found a house. As we were house hunting, my desire to start a family grew stronger and stronger. It's hard to explain, but I just felt ready. DH was ready to start whenever I wanted to start TTC. We had hoped to be in a house by February, but unfortunately we never found one that we loved. I didn't want to put of TTC for another 6 months since TTC can take a very long time. I went off BCP in March and ended up getting pregnant that month. Although I would've preferred being in a house already, we have plenty of room for a baby if we're unable to move before December.

I don't know if anyone is every totally ready for a baby. Good luck!

Re: when did you know you were ready to start TTC?

As for me, My DH is 36 (will be 37 in Aug) and I am 28. We will be married a year on 9/15 and we are also going to Disney for our 1YR Anniversary trip on Aug 16 - we are also taking my 4yo DS from my 1st marriage for his 1st time.

Hopefully, if all goes like planned we are going to start trying on our trip. With any luck we will be PG when I celebrate our 1yr :).

We just felt we are ready, He is older plus we want another and plan on trying when the future baby is 1 or so.

I can't wait...I am sooo excited to be joining the TTC and hopefully prego club.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: when did you know you were ready to start TTC?

Once we returned from Paris in Feb, we knew we were ready. We have traveled ALOT together and we felt this was a time when we'd have no regrets

ETA: Dh is 31 and i will be 34 this month. We've been married 2 yrs, together for 7

Sounds almost like us, except DH is 33 and I'll be 34 in July. We're a year behind on the marriage part though as well as being together. 1 year married in August....and we've been together 6 years.Chat Icon

A couple months ago I was even thinking I was not in a rush AT ALL. I just wanted life to stay the way it was for awhile. But sometimes you wake up and you go...hmmmm it's time. Our families have been through a ton this year so we feel it's a sign telling us we need to create some good news!

I agree w/ you on wanting another baby soon after the first.....that's another reason we want to start TTC soon (I'd like them no more than 2-3 yrs apart).....that and we're together for 8 years almost, so we just feel its time. good luck when you start trying!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
