That just rubs me the wrong way... yes, even on top of how unthinkable what your MIL did, your husband then lied to you about it?!
Something is wrong here.
You would think that she would be so embarrassed that she would clean it up - to leave it there  I have no words.
For DH to take responsiblity creeps me out, like he's used to this or something!

With regard to me being terribly upset that I was planning my wedding without my mom, who had passed AND ILs had already made me miserable:
"People die. Deal with it." - FIL
When we told MIL that DH (boyfriend at the time) were moving in together:
"You're such a beyotch and you've ruined boyfriend's life." - MIL
When I told FIL that I needed his tables for our wedding now or I wouldn't have time to make his placecards:
"You're so disrespectful. I wish I could just drop you off on the side of the road." - FIL

I didn't call her out on it. When I found the pile in question. I called DH into the bathroom and I said what is this. He said oh it must have been me   I took him for what he said and asked him if I needed to potty train him too like our daughter. Cleaned it up santizied and went on about my day until my MIL said that at my SIL's I almost puked right then and there.
I know it's not funny- but the way you worded this- just cracked me up.

drop you off on the side of the road -- ouch!

I just told my MIL that I am so glad she is my MIL and not this woman who sh!t on the bathroom floor. I am so sorry that she wouldn't have the decency to clean up after herself
