Wedding China
I just got into a discussion with someone regarding wedding china. Does anyone still register for china?
I feel like people are no longer registering for china but instead registering for more practical items. The person I was speaking to disagreed with me and said that people to still register for china.

I did 3 years ago because I'm an idiot. It's still in the boxes in my parents basement.

Re: Wedding China
I have a wedding in November. The Bride registered for China It all depends on the person. If they plan on entertaining for holidays, they may want it.
That's when we use ours

LOL. I registered for my wedding 10 years ago, didn't get a piece. I use my mom's, also my mom's or my great-aunt's silver. My niece will get my silver when she's getting married.
eta : I use the china and the silver fairly often, for special occasions and even if it is just our friends for a casual dinner. I treasure it because it is my mom's.

Re: Wedding China
I didn't register for expensive china. I registerd for this butterfly lenox set which was reasobably priced compare to others. We never use it. Should have never done it don't know why I did.
But we don't entertain maybe if we did I would use it but even then I rather just use a nice regular place setting than china.

Re: Wedding China
I have expensive china that we never use. I was so into it when we were getting married. If I had to do it all over again I would register for something else or do one of those honeymoon registries.

Re: Wedding China
I got it and actually use my china frequently, but I grew up in a house where my mom used her china a lot.
I use it for every holiday we entertain, I use it if we're hosting a birthday dinner for someone, I use it sometimes if I make DH and I a fancy romantic dinner, I use it sometimes on a random Sunday dinner.

I registered about 11 years ago and I only registered for a nice looking dinnerware set that cost about 200 - 400 maybe for the whole set of 8 or 10 place settings (can't remember the exact price or number of place settings) I didn't want to register for China that was super expensive since I knew it wou ld mostly just collect dust. We also registered for basic every day dinnerware and that ended up being much more practical as we've used it every day for 10 years.

I got married in 2014 and registered for china, crystal stemware, individual flatware settings, the whole 9. It was important to me and my family. I use it on holidays and special occasions.

Re: Wedding China
We registered for it. My bridesmaids and parents all chipped in to get us the whole set. We use it just about every time we host (except for like backyard bbqs and stuff like that). I love it. It's so pretty and makes holidays feel special. My aunt hosts every other Christmas and eating off paper/plastic just isn't the same.
I also have Lenox casual china that I use everyday. I've had them for years. I swear they are unbreakable **knock on wood** lol
ETA: I'm not Greek or Italian lol. I married into a big Italian family and not one of them ever uses China. It's always plastic or paper when they host.

Re: Wedding China
I didn't register for it. My mom has an incredible set from the 1920's that she told me I could have.
They didn't have dishwashers in the 1920's so I never took her up on it.
Edit - I've seen it on some registries but I just scroll past. I don't like anyone enough to buy them china.

Re: Wedding China
I did six years ago and it's still in the box. I love it too but we've never used it and now with three super young kids, I'm hesitant.
If I could go back, I'd register for a beautiful white set and do accent pieces to dress it up.

Re: Wedding China
I did & I regret it... big waste! Then in the years since, my MIL has given us a couple of sets of china she had & didn't want anymore when they moved so now I have a ridiculous amount of fancy china... that I never use.... I use the simple everyday stuff all the time.

Re: Wedding China
I got married 15 years ago and didn't register for china. I never for a second in those 15 years regretted it I have no formal dining room. I also have no place to store it. There is no way in hell I'd fit a china cabinet anywhere in my house. I barely have space to store my everyday plates! In addition I cannot imagine an occasion where I would ever use it. When people come for dinner we eat on our everyday plates or paper plates because we are outside. Huge waste of money and space IMO

Re: Wedding China
We registered for Waterford China that my mom bought . She begged me to also register for Waterford stemware which I refused to do. I told her I'm not having anyone spend that much money on glorified cups when I don't even drink or know what any of them are really for.
Ten years later we've used the China twice when we had our family here after midnight mass for Easter. And even then I get told "no, don't use it. It's only us; who wants to wash it"-!!!!!!!
We have now started hosting Christmas the last four years but my place settings are only enough for 12 and I have way more people than that. Plus we do buffet style since there are so many of us. And I have enough people helping to wash platters etc. I don't want them spending time washing plates too.
Oh and the best part- I told my mom that first Christmas I'll finally get to use the stemware that I did register for (waaaaay cheaper than Waterford)....and she told me NO! She went and bought me cheaply glasses from ikea instead!!
Ps- yep. Greek.

Greek here. Registered 7 years ago for china and stemware. My grandma bought the China and my inlaws the stemware. I have used it all maybe 4 times. If I could go back I would have registered for really nice everyday plates to use. Every time we entertain we mostly use disposable plates! I also inherited a ton of China from my mom and paternal grandma, which I have sitting in my attic collecting dust.

Going to a wedding in Sept and they registered for China. I was pretty surprised because they are a very casual couple. ( but yes, the bride is Italian )
