1.
Yes I got the seasonal flu shot. I made DH get one too.
2.
I decided to get it b/c I always had it every year while working in health care. The benefits out weighed the risks for me when I did the research. I will be pregnant the entire flu season, and didn't want to take a chance of having complications, and ending up in the hospital with pneumonia. The ACOG & CDC highly recommended the shot, as well as other trust worthy sources.
3.
My arm was sore for about 48 hours. I think I ran a slight temperature for about 24 hours after the vaccine. This is common for me though after any vaccine.
4. I had it done at a pharmacy in the supermarket. The Walgreens near me (out of state) was out of the preservative free. They called next door to the supermarket, and they had it so I got it. DH got his regular flu shot at Walgreens.
5. I do NOT plan on getting the H1N1 vaccine. I just feel there is a ton of media hype around H1N1, and that it is really not necessary. I will discuss it with my OB, but am pretty sure I will not be getting it. The research is just not proving to me that the benefits out weigh the risks. I always weigh risk to benefit when deciding on medical interventions.

Will be getting regular flu shot, but not the swine flu one.
Question - is it safe to get the flu shot in the first tri? Last time I was in the 3rd when I got it.

Did you get the regular flu shot? Yes at 34 weeks
Why or Why not? Got one last year and didn't have a problem also OB recommended it.
Did you have side effects? Nope not a one.
Where did you get it done and was it mercury free? OB's office and yes it was mercury free
Do you plan on getting the swine flu shot? Why or Why not? Yes b/c I feel the risk to pregnant women is too big and I want my baby and myself to be protected. My OB recommends it and I trust them.

Why or Why not? Because I never have before in my life and I didn't feel like during pregnancy was a good time to experiment with it.

Where did you get it done and was it mercury free? N/A
Do you plan on getting the swine flu shot? Why or Why not? NO. Because I think it's a scam and the media is creating mass hysteria over something that is a small risk. That it is a conspiracy between the government and the pharmaceutical companies because many are making money off it. That the fact that the government grants immunity to manufacturers undermines all of the credibility of the vaccine. And because I am convinced it is not safe for pregnant women, that they are not disclosing all the risks and that down the road...we will see. FYI - my OB DID recommend that I do get it but I did a lot of my own research.

a little injection sight tenderness for a day or two

Walgreens, mercury free
H1N1- undecided. I have an OB appointment on Friday I plan to discuss with her then.

NO and NO. I've never gotten a flu shot and don't think now is the time to try it out. As for the H1N1 vaccine, NO thanks! I do not want to be a guinea pig nor do I want to regret it one day!

Not yet but I will be getting it. I can get it for free through my company if I go to Walgreens so I will be calling around tomorrow.
Why or Why not?
I want to not only protect myself from as many strains of the flu as I can, but I also want to protect my unborn baby as he/she will get the antibodies from me.

Haven't gotten it yet, but when I had the shot last year I just had a sore arm.

Will be going to Walgreens and looking for the mercury free one.
Will I get the H1N1 vaccine?
I think I was swayed to get it today by my OB. She convinced me that it is a good idea to get it. I don't buy the whole "it's too new" argument just because every year the flu vaccine is new and made with the most common forms of the flu vaccine from the previous year. The H1N1 vaccine was apparently made the exact same way. Also, my ped who is expecting her 2nd child a week after me is getting the shot. The question is will I be able to find it because no doctor's offices in NJ will be carrying the H1N1 vaccine. If I can't find it I obviously won't get it.

Did you have side effects? No, just sore arm for 2 days.
Where did you get it done and was it mercury free? My primary doctor and yes, it was mercury free. I got the pediatric version and since it's 1/2 the dose of the adult version, they had to give me 2 shots, one in each arm. No big deal and I was happy to not have the mercury.
Do you plan on getting the swine flu shot? I'm 36 weeks now, so it probably will not be available before delivery. I am on the fence about it for after the baby. For now, no. Later, maybe.

I don't see it as a big deal-it is just another strain. I have spoken to my doc, DD's doc, my friend who is a pediatrician and my friend who is a Nurse Practioner. They all said the same thing, to get it and I 100% trust all of them.

If I weren't observing kids I wouldn't be worried about the flu...I don't think I've had it for ages. I'm nervous about not getting the shot, getting the flu, and then the complications from the flu while pregnant.
I don't want to get it though because I don't get sick, don't want to get a vaccine I've never gotten etc.

If I do get it - I will ask for the mercury free one (prolly walgreens). My OB did not have the mercury free one.

I got the flu shot
no reason not to get it - I have gotten the flu shot for the last 25 years -no reactions, no flu. Seems like a no brainer

OB's office - mercury free
I ABSOLUTELY plan on getting the swine flu vaccine - have spoken to a ton of people who are actively involved with the study of this disease - infectious disease specialists, epidemiologists, doctors - and they are saying that this vaccine should be a no brainer for pregnant women. I have told a lot of these people that drs have been telling their patients not to get the shot and they are appalled. I feel that the hype about the vaccine is worse than the hype about the flu. On GMA this morning they had a woman who was pregnant and came down with the swine flu, had to have an emergency c-section and was in a coma for 2 1/2 months - her heart stopped 3 times. She had no underlying health conditions and had never had the flu. She is fine now, but she went through hell. My OB said she won't get it until next week - I am definitely getting it.

I saw that woman on GMA this morning! It really was quite frightening! Her complications were unbelievable, and she was very very very lucky to come out of it like she did. Thank goodness baby and mom are both ok.
I work in a hospital and have been mandated to get both the seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccines. I was a little leary of the H1N1 shot at first, but now, after hearing from a number of nurses, docs, and my OB, I feel it's the safest thing to do at this current moment.
I got the preservative free flu shot at a Walgreen's. It was a little tough to track down, I had to travel about a half hour out of my way to get it, but I feel much better about getting the preservative free one.

Yes to seasonal flu---I have always gotten it, when I was working I was in direct contact with sick patients. Never had any side effects. I would also like to get the H1N1 vaccine if I can get it.

Where did you get it done and was it mercury free? OB's office and yes it was mercury free and 100% preservative free and was not a live dose...i made sure!
Do you plan on getting the swine flu shot? Why or Why not? No...it is too new and I am 4 weeks away from my due date and only working 1 day a week, so to me, its not worth any potential risk to my baby.

HAD A TERRIBLE FLU MY SENIOR YEAR IN COLLEGE - ENDED UP IN THE HOSPITAL WITH 104 FEVER. I TEACH AND HAVE GOTTEN THE FLU SHOT EVERY YEAR SINCE I STARTED TEACHING.

just saw my dr. for the 1st time yesterday...I'm about 6 weeks and he wants me to get both flu shot and swine flu shot.
Will go to CVS or Walgreens for regular flu shot. Interesting info on the mercury free shot - he said if it's available to get that one. He said not a big deal if I get the regular one with mercury - it's just a preservative and the amt of mercury in one shot is the amt of mercury in 1 tuna fish sandwich.
His office will be getting the swine flu shots when they are available so I will go there for that.
Not sure why everyone is so afraid of the swine flu shot - I have heard this on the news and in many articles and again yesterday from my dr - it is made the same way regular flu shot is made...had swine flu come out a month earlier last year...there would be no separate shot for it now it would all have been in the seasonal flu shot. So not a big deal...getting swine flu while prego is a much bigger deal than the shot so I am definitely getting it.
