THE OFFICIAL ARE YOU GETTING THE FLU/SWINE FLU SHOT THREAD.....(also contains questions about mercury free & side effects)
I'm sorry and maybe I'm cranky today but I can't take another post on the flu shot  SO I'm making this an official post....PLEASE respond here so it's all in one place for everyone to see and we can just bump as we see fit
Did you get the regular flu shot?
Why or Why not?
Did you have side effects?
Where did you get it done and was it mercury free?
Do you plan on getting the swine flu shot? Why or Why not?

My answers:
Did you get the regular flu shot? Yes
Why or Why not? My OB asked all his preggo patients to get one. I had never gotten one before in my life but did b/c I did not want to even take a chance of getting the flu with a newborn.
Did you have side effects? I did not have any side effects and I got it at 35 weeks
Where did you get it done and was it mercury free? My OB was providing for pregnant women only..and I actually have no idea if it was mercury free
Do you plan on getting the swine flu shot? Why or Why not? No I am not per my OB

Where did you get it done and was it mercury free? I got it done at walgreens and IT WAS MERCURY FREE the cost was 29 dollars my obgyn only wanted me to get this shot

I've gotten it before and I think it's a safe measure to take for the baby. Plus I've already gotten a cold and really don't want the flu.
Did you have side effects?
When I have gotten in the past the only side affect I had was soreness in the injection location.
Where did you get it done and was it mercury free?
I'm getting it done at my Primary docs office. My OB's office isn't offering it. They don't even want you to come in to see them if you have flu symptoms. I don't know if it's mercury free.

Still not sure about this one. My OB highly suggests it, but I feel like it's sooo new. I know I prob. feel this way becasue of all the media coverage. However, I do work in the city and am constantly dealing with crowds of people, so then I think i should take it. I do't know

Why or Why not? I had a reaction the last time i had one and need to take benedryl to have one
Did you have side effects? Hives and swollen arm the last time i had it...
Do you plan on getting the swine flu shot? Absolutely not
Why or Why not? Too new, and my ob doesn't feel it is necessary... he actually agree with me that it is just a virus that got alot of news coverage

Did you get the regular flu shot? I am getting it tomorrow. Update: Didn't get it. I have decided to wait until my 2nd trimester.
Why or Why not? I think it is important and I don't want to take any chances of getting the flu...especially since I'm on the subway everyday.
Did you have side effects? Never did when I got it in the past.
Where did you get it done and was it mercury free? It will not be mercury free. I tried to find mercury free but the Walgreens around me is out of it.

I am having mine done at Duane Reade and I don't think it will be mercury free.

I'm still unsure, but likely am getting it. My OB is recomending it. A few weeks ago, they thought my assistant at work had it and it was quite a hassle for me - they were ready to send me to all sorts of doctors. I'm not sure if I want to deal with that again.

If my OB pushes it during my first appt . I will. but I don't to .
Why or Why not? I have a cold now, and I'm pretty miserable. so I'm thinking I wouldn't handle the flu very well.

Why or Why not? never have, and don't ever plan to, especially since I'd probably just end up getting a strain of the flu that wasn't covered by the vaccine

-not yet, but plan on it. Did not get it yet because my dr. ran out of preservative free. If they dont have it at my next appt I plan on getting the "regular" regular flu shot for free at my job.

Because I have a weak immune system from a previous heart condition and I have had the flu several times and I decided that it was healthier for me & baby to get it. I think I will get it every year from now on.

A tiny tiny bit of soreness at the injection site
Where did you get it done and was it mercury free? Got it done last night at my cardiologists office. I asked about the mercury, and she said she was told the shot she has is safe for everyone, including pregnant women..so I took that to mean it was mercury free.
Do you plan on getting the swine flu shot? Why or Why not?
Yes, it was suggested by both my OB and Cardiologist. Since I have a weak immune system, I think I should. My ody has a very very hard time fighting off infections and viruses and I don't need to cause it more stress.

My Dr. recommends that all pregnant patients get it and with my allergy induced asthma and the number of people I'm around commuting every day - I'm not sure if I want to take a chance.

Thank you DEV! Seriously, I can't deal with another of these posts.
And to answer-no to both. I never had one and I am not comfortable with the chemicals. If I was, I would take my RA drugs.

-yes but only b/c I was able to get the themisol free one. No side effects other then a sore arm for a day or two
-No to the swine flu vaccine-too new for me
