Spit Up and Bottles?

OK I need some help!

Now that we are supplementing with formula Miranda is spitting up. Sometimes its just a little but then there are times it feels like she spit up everything she just ate. How much spit up is normal?

Right now I am using the Dr. Browns. It was some gift pack I got. I can't tell if the nipples have different flows or not.

I have some Ventaire's upstaris that I haven't cleaned yet.

What bottles have worked for you? I know every baby is different but I need her to gain weight and she won't do that if she spits up most of her feedings.

If you take the nipple out of the ring and look at the edge it should tell you what level it is. However, the gift pack comes with level one nipples.

I've always used Dr. Brown bottles and they've worked for Jared.

The Dr. Brown bottles have worked really well for Jake also. He very rarely ever spits up. Are you stopping to burp her halfway through the bottle? That should help. If not, then I would try giving her 1/4oz less of formula to see if that helps. And maybe decrease it by 1/4 until you find the amount that works for her without spitting up. Just make sure you make up the ounces with another feeding so she's not getting less food.

The Dr. brown bottles come with level 1
I never had a problem with them maybe its the formula she might not use to it. My Girlfriend is going through this right now as well she just switch to a soy based formula and her daughter doesn't spit up as much

Hmmmm...I hate to break this to you, but it might not be the bottles. My daughter spits up after every single feeding. It actually looks like a lot but its not really and she is gaining weight without fail. Some babies have reflux but changing the formula miht help if it continues to get worse. Dr Browns are actually supposed to be the best for preventing spit-up.

Thanks everyone! I finally figured out where the levels were on the nipples. It came with level 1, 2 and Y. Not sure what Y is but its the fastest and what we were using without realizing it.
This morning DH grabbed a different nipple which happened to be a level 1 and she spit up. Then her next feeding I used my boob contraption to feed her and she spit up but not as bad as this morning then the next feeding used the bottle and level 1 again and she did great. Just one little spit up so who knows. I want to say its the formula except she did it the other day when she had a bottle of pumped breast milk but maybe that time it was the nipple.
I am going to buy some Good Start formula this weekend and see if that's any better. I am just hoping to get my breastfeeding worked out and be done with formula but I don't know if that will happen or not.

The Y cut nipples are for when you add cereal to the bottle so yes they have the fastest flow.

Re: Spit Up and Bottles?

Nate used to spit up a lot and we found itr was the fomula that was the issue. We started with enfamil lipil then enfamil ar and now he's on similac soy. its so much better now.

As for bottles, we used dr brown's and advent to see if there was a difference. He spit up less when we used the dr brown's.

The doctor told us, we had the same concerns, that the spit up will always look like more it is because it's mixed with salvia. As long as she is gaining weight and happy then don't worry.

Re: Spit Up and Bottles?

Cole has reflux which is a little different than spit up, but after trying several bottles. we found that the playtex drop ins (the ones with the disposable liners) are by far the best for him. It cut down on gas too.

This exact thing happen with Ryan last night... I supplement one night time feeding with formula... after he was done.. he was still happy as could be and out of nowhere he spit up the whole bottleChat Icon

I assumed it was the formula as well.. then later on today he spit up a little with a bottle of pumped BM..

I think he is just drinking way to fast.. SInce he is primarily BF...he has such a strong s-u-c-k...he uses that same force with his bottles...

I guess Ill see what happens tonight.. Im just gonna try and make him drink real slow...stop for a burp more often and such...
