Regardless of whether bottled water is cleaner or safer than tap, I still prefer the taste. Chat Icon

They sell them all over. The brand is Camelbak.

Here's a link to Amazon for them, but they probably sell them in stores too if you're not looking to purchase online.

I'd bet if someone gave you a blind taste test you wouldn't even taste the difference.

The "inventors" of bottled tap water are laughing themselves silly right to the bank!!

We have a heavy-duty filter in the basement that has a faucet in the kitchen.

I can.

ETA: I prefer soda these days anyway although I know I should drink water.

Re: Spinoff to two topics: Going green and bottled water

I recently have stopped buying bottled water for this reason. We have a whole house filter and I have a second filter on the tap. I have a glass bottle that I carry with me for the water.

I hate that the bottled water has produced so much garbage Chat Icon

I was equally taken aback by the amount of people who drive SUVs.

Good post...

I think many are just oblivious to it all or think it doesnt affect them.

I, like Coleen, had a bad experience w/tap water. Not to long ago you'll remember the water in FS & WH was contaminated with MTBE. We were told we couldn't even shower in the water & boiling it would not help. The day the "warning" was made we started getting Poland Spring delivered to our apt.

We've since moved. We still have our Poland Spring deliveries, but I now cook with our tap water. Day to day drinking we do not use disposal water bottles. I switch daily between two refillable containers that I refill all day at work from our fridge filter.

I completely agree that some of the biggest waste out there does come from the water bottles - thankfully that was never an issue with us.

and people also thought smoking wouldnt kill you either - look how that turned out.

there is research that shows cancer clusters on LI - maybe the water has something to do with it, maybe it doesnt. im not taking my chances.

I do recycle my bottles.

I really hope the people judging those who drink bottled water aren't driving around in SUVs. People in glass houses...

My tap water smells bad. In a blind smell test I can smell it from a room away. It disgusts me that I shower in it. I recycle the bottles from the water I drink.

I wasn't referring to you, I was referring to other posters who post about saving the environment and then turn around and post about shopping for SUVs. Pick your battles, I suppose. I for one am against SUVs, but I try to make a point not making preachy posts to people who probably already know the facts but choose to buy them anyway. Or to start sentences with "is anyone else DISGUSTED by the number of people on LIF who drive SUVs?!"

Re: Spinoff to two topics: Going green and bottled water

Speaking of bottled water... at work we have those large water coolers... one day I drank some and tasted GASOLINE Chat Icon Sure enough, when the water test came back from the lab there was gasoline in the water. Then we learned the regulations are different for bottled water than tap water and it was actually an acceptable amount of gasoline in the water. I drank it myself and believe me it was strong. Chat Icon I have dramatically cut back on bottled water since that incident and we have filtered tap water at work now... but I still buy some bottles to keep in the car, for emergencies, etc.

Re: Spinoff to two topics: Going green and bottled water

well I bet everyone can guess how I weigh in on this-I hate water bottles. I do buy them occassionally because I have a very difficult teenager in my house that refuses to drink tap water & I don't want her drinking soda juice or iced tea constantly. I usually lean toward buying the large fridge dispenser with the spout.
We have well water that comes straight from the source & I think its delicious.
I recycle everything but i know we have created & disposed of way more water bottles than we should have & we are behind in recycling them. Not to mention many people still don't recycle at all.
My place of employment orders poland spring by the case as well as water cooler bottles. Employess bring water bottles from home, refill them & throw them in the garbage that goes in a dumpster-no recycling.
I don't care for vitamin water bottles much either.

But how can you say you buy them some times. Trust me if your daughter had nothing else to drink she would go to the sink. Or fill the bottles with tap when she's not home!

Re: Spinoff to two topics: Going green and bottled water

We use Britta filters too although I've noticed the tap here (Town of Smithtown) tastes a heck of a lot better than where I used to live.

I have one water bottle that I refill.

Finding out the amount of people who drive SUV's saddened me. I really wish that every one of those people would take a honest, hard look at whether that extra space is really necessary.

And I did a double take when I saw the OP because that "Go Green" lightbulb avatar was what I used a while ago. Chat Icon I though I had posted it a while ago and forgotten about it. Chat Icon

Kristin, in life and as parents, especially as a step-parent we have to choose our battles. Trust me, not only are you not a mother(correct?) but you DON'T know my stepdaughter. Thank you though for the parenting tips.
I'm not going to lie & tell everyone I never buy bottled water. I buy it on a very limited basis. I don't live alone however I do the shopping for my household. I'm with the group of people that believe boycotting a few items in an attempt to save the environment is not the way to get the job done. Exclude what you can, use other things in moderation or on a necessity basis. I think growing more produce than my family can eat, raising chickens that lay eggs for my family and many other action steps I have taken over the last several years afford me the opportunity to make my own choices regarding environmental issues.
ETS-there have been many studies done that show reusing water bottles release toxins that cause signifgant health problems.
