Spinoff to telling parents: How far along were you?

How far along were you before you told your parents/inlaws about being pg?

I always thought I'd be the type to tell my mom as soon as I found out, but now that I'm pg, I want to wait a bit.

Re: Spinoff to telling parents: How far along were you?

The first time I waited until our first sonogram appt. at 8 weeks. I was nervous to tell (call it intuition). We ended up having a m/c at 12 weeks.

The second time I told my mother and sister and BF (we all had plans to go out to lunch)about 2 hours after POAS. I don't know if my intuition told me everything was going to be fine and to tell the world or that I knew I needed their support God forbid anything were to happen. We waited until about 9 weeks to tell everyone else.

Re: Spinoff to telling parents: How far along were you?

several days after BFP. i would have told her the next day, but DH was going out of the country the next day so i had to wait for him to come home. that wait was torture!

i figured that god forbid if i miscarried, i would have told my mom anyway. i would have wanted her to know i was pregnant and miscarried, than just miscarried.

but you have to do what's best for you.

We told my mom the day after I got the BFP. And told MIL a few days after. We have been telling family in dribs and drabs but no one outside of the family really knows. Not yet anyway.

about 3 weeks....I thought I was farther along and the doctor actually told me that if I took a test the day before, it most likely would have been negative!

I couldn't keep it in

Re: Spinoff to telling parents: How far along were you?

So it seems like it really varies as to when the best time really is.

I'm feeling really guilty that I'm keeping this from my mom. I hope she doesn't feel bad when she DOES find out and I'm weeks along. I can't shake this feeling, but I know it's the right thing to do.

I just told dh that he must be my ultimate support because, really, he's my only support right now. He said he could handle that and I believe him, but it still doesn't take away the feeling of not telling my mom.

I'm still going to wait at the VERY least until we hear a heartbeat...

Re: Spinoff to telling parents: How far along were you?

At 8 weeks I blurted by accident to my mom. We then told my ILs to be fair but I wouldnt have told anyone until 12 weeks if I didnt have such loose lips.

We told everyone 2 days after we found out, which was about 10 DPO. We figured that if (god forbid) something went wrong it would be better if we had the support of our family anyway.

Re: Spinoff to telling parents: How far along were you?

The first time we were pregnant we announced it on mother's day (we found out a couple of days before) and we gave cutsey bib and socks as a gift. Sadly, we later miscarried.

After dealing with IF for 4 years and going through IVF cycles, we decided to tell everyone the day of the beta. Now, I feel guilty not telling them in a cutsey way, but we didn't even think of it. We were just so excited!

Re: Spinoff to telling parents: How far along were you?

We waited a little longer because I had a m/c last year and did not want to tell people only to be disappointed. In addition, I wanted to do the CVS test for genetic disorders and wait for the results of that first. I only told my mom immediately after I found out, then we told remaining family at about 15 weeks and I told work about 16 weeks.
