Spin off to TRU closing

There was also a Child World on Hempstead Tnpke. in Levittown. We lived in Queens, so we didn't go often, but my mom's best friend lived in Levittown. I think we went in a few times.

Spin off to TRU closing

I am also sad...I remember one christmas when I was a kid my dad said that I could pick anything I wanted in the whole store...it was amazing and will never forget it...I recently took my 4 yr old DS for the first and last time and he mentions going back again...I had to explain that the store was closing forever and he didnt quite understand but he seemed kinda bummed that he would not get to experience a store devoted to toys...I had gift cards to use and I basically said the same thing to him that he could pick out any toy he wanted and the joy in his face was priceless

Re: Spin off to TRU closing

Not Toys R Us, but I have felt that way about other places closing. Jahn’s Ice Cream Parlour in Queens (the one in Richmond Hill) meant the world to me, mostly because I spent a lot of time there with my grandparents. I cried when it closed down; it was a huge part of my childhood. They have one in Jackson Heights and it’s great but not the same.

I also went a bit off the deep end when Tower Records closed their US operations. I mean straight-up SOBBING. I never quite got over that, but there are some international ones and I got to go to the one in Dublin...it was like walking back into a cozy home.

The music stores on 48th Street...different venues over the years...Yaffa Cafe...yeah, I feel ya.

Yes brings back memories growing up of getting excited walking into a Toys R Us! It's def not the same walking through the toy aisles at a Target. I told my DD that TRU was closing (she is 2.5) and she got upset with me saying, "Mommy stop it!! Don't say that! "
