SOMEONE TALK SOME SENSE INTO ME...
DS was complaining that his ear hurt so DH took him to the doctor. he just called. Not strep, yay! But the ear does seem infected so she gave him antibiotics (this is a common issue with DS)
and then DH tells me this.....
his lymph nodes are enlarged and if they do not shrink by next week, we need to go back in for a blood test
Well, i did the stupid thing and googled "enlarged lymph nodes in toddlers" First thing to come of was lymphoma. Now i'm sitting at work, trying not to have a total breakdown thinking that my poor baby boy can be really really sick! and I have another week of this!
any words of encouragement or telling me i am nuts will be appreciated!

If your doc was that concerned she wouldn't have you wait until next week. I'm sure everything will be fine and stay away from Google!

Re: SOMEONE TALK SOME SENSE INTO ME...
DO NOT jump to the worst possible case scenario !!!
Your lymph nodes could be swollen b/c you got a cold, or a sinus infection, or the flu or 500 reasons that are NOT cancer related.
WHY the hell would they say he needs a blood test after a week w/ NO other explanation? that was stupid on their part. Don't stress

SOMEONE TALK SOME SENSE INTO ME...
I had a bad case of swimmers ear and it caused 6 of my lymph nodes to "pop". They were huge. Try not to be afraid. They are so common with ear infections.

Stop stop stop!
You can google any symptom and cancer would come up. I had enlarged lymph nodes this winter when I was sick and of course, I'm fine.

Re: SOMEONE TALK SOME SENSE INTO ME...
During my PSATs I felt nodes enlarged in my neck. I couldn't concentrate and was borderline about to pass out thinking at 15 I had neck cancer. It was because my earring hole (that I pierced myself) was slightly infected and draining into a node. Needless to say I bombed the PSATs.
My father recently became cancer free (yay) with a lymphatic cancer and he did not have swollen nodes, they think he may have had it for 1-2 years prior to rx and he had no signs.
So there you go, STAY OFF OF GOOGLE!

Re: SOMEONE TALK SOME SENSE INTO ME...
Google "reactive lymph nodes" and that is what your child has. Kids lymphatic systems take time to mature so they dont always drain well. He has an ear infection, of course his lymph nodes are swollen. I think your Dr is an alarmist

SOMEONE TALK SOME SENSE INTO ME...
If you are this concerned give the doctor a call to find out if you can have the blood test done now. It is worth it if it will put your mind at ease.

Re: SOMEONE TALK SOME SENSE INTO ME...
Both of my DSs have enlarged lymph nodes. Both on the same side of the neck. When they are sick they swell up. They go back down slowly afterwards, but honestly you can still see them, at least I can.
My doctor has told me there is nothing to worry about. Just their bodies fighting.

Re: SOMEONE TALK SOME SENSE INTO ME...
Lymph nodes swell because of both bacterial and viral infections. It's very common and not a reason to worry.

Re: SOMEONE TALK SOME SENSE INTO ME...
Thank you Ladies! I am much calmer now.
I know I shouldn't jump to the worst case scenario, but it is so hard not to.
When it comes to DS I turn into a mama bear the second I feel he is threatened.
Thank you again for calming me down!

All of the above and alarmist puts it nicely imo.
