Calm me down, talk some sense into me please...
Can't believe how upset I am over this.
Amanda (Cupcakes for Sophia's Cure) made cupcakes for Riley's birthday- Fresh Beat Band theme - for daycare. They're amazing. I had Riley in a t-shirt with the Fresh Beats on it. I had a plan to bring a CD with music, make it the kiddie party I wasn't planning on having.
Well I rushed out so fast this morning I never said anything to her teachers. But to be honest, I figured it was a no brainer- wait for me to do it! These aren't your ordinary cupcakes!!! I get there at 3:30 every day anyway, and snack is at 3. I even talked to one of her teachers last week about adjusting my hours so I could be there.
Well, I missed it by like 15 minutes!! I can't even tell you how upset I was when I went into the kitchen, opened the fridge and didn't see them there. Then I see her teacher in the hall and ask if they had them, and she said yes. She claimed she told the rest of them to wait for me but they said no. (right  )
I went out of my freaking way for this. I just have to vent to people who understand the disappointment of missing a big moment that you've been looking forward to when it comes to your child. I wanted to be there when Riley first saw those cupcakes and her reaction, and be there when they sang Happy Birthday. She LIVES for birthdays. Last week there was another birthday - they sang the song- and Riley cried because there were no cupcakes. It just doesn't help that I already have so much guilt over not having a traditional kiddie party...and now I miss this.
ugh...someone talk some sense into me please and help me get over my disappointment! Tell me I was really freaking STUPID not to tell them to wait for me. Tell me it's all my fault or something. Because all I wanted to do was burst into tears and then curse out her teachers. But I just had to get out of there, I was so upset.
Thanks for listening. I can't believe how upset I am.... It's like they took Christmas away.

Aww Tara. I'm so sorry. I completely understand how you would be upset though...I would be too!!! You put so much thought into it all - how could you not be upset? Especially knowing how excited Riley would be. I wish I had some words of advice, but I really just have hugs for you. It's totally not the same thing, but, the first time Katelyn rolled over, DH was with her...And he called and told me...And on the phone I was happy...But as soon as I hung up, I burst into tears! I'm learning that there are certain things that as a mom, you just have this need / want to be there for. And no one can fault you for that.
I truly understand how you would be so upset...

did I? No, but my emotions made me feel like doing that. Of course better sense told me not to.

oh Tara - you should see my face....i'm so sorry.....
here's an idea......since she loves birthdays so much and the fresh beats - what about asking Amanda to make you 3 more cupcakes (one for you, Brett & riley) and do a special family birthday another day??
let's face it - an excuse to have a cupcake is a good one - it gives you another chance to sing to her and another chance to see her face with the cupcakes....

We have a few cupcakes left over. I invited her buddy down the block to come tomorrow night.
At least I have a Fresh Beat Band cake planned for our family party on Sunday.
Stupid stupid STUPID me. Just plain STUPID.

shes upset and venting. if she wanted to really yell at the teacher she would have.

Sorry, but I totally agree. As a mom, I understand how you feel. As a teacher, if you didn't tell the teachers to wait, how were they supposed to know? I'm sure you're upset, but these things happen.

If so, have a special moment and do it tonight! She'll be excited all over again.
I'm sorry this happened. Next time tell them you want to be there!!!! I don't think my daycare would've assumed I wanted to be there for it.

Sorry, but I totally agree. As a mom, I understand how you feel. As a teacher, if you didn't tell the teachers to wait, how were they supposed to know? I'm sure you're upset, but these things happen.
I'm not putting total fault on them at all here. I know I should've said something. But to be honest, they know I get there at 3:30. I even mentioned it to a teacher that I was going to adjust my schedule to be there. When I told one of the teachers I was disappointed that they did it without me, she apologized and said "Well I told them we should wait and they said no." Don't know if I believe that. If they know my schedule and know I'm coming- what's the harm in waiting a few minutes? I literally missed it by that much.
I'm a teacher too- not a daycare teacher - but I think I would've considered waiting, knowing the mom was on her way.

I suppose they don't take pictures at your daycare?
Seems like you have more than one birthday event though and those will be just as fun! Trust me, on your death bed you won't be saying, "My life would have been complete if only I'd seen her daycare 2nd birthday..." Much more fun on the horizon!!!

yeah, one of her teachers was taking pics and even took pics when I got there and said she'd mail them to me.
Yup, it's all about being there for the moment. I wanted to see and hear her reaction. I can just hear her little voice. It's just especially hard when you look forward to this for days...and you miss it. But yeah, I know there's more to come. This is just the first disappointment...and I'm already dreading the other things I might miss!!
I was such a mess, a scatter brain this morning running out...and I do realize I was an azz for just assuming they would include me. So at this point, I'm really beating myself up bad about it.

I would have been just as upset as you. I totally get why you would want to yell and scream and vent, this is big stuff when they are so little and get so excited over things you do for them. When she is 16 you will wish she would get this excited over cupcakes

I get it. We all run out in the morning and forget and then think that people are thinking the same things we are. It sucks! I know you don't really fault them and don't beat yourself up over it. I would probably cry too just because I'm a huge stickler for seeing those things, but I would make your own little party again!

Tara I totally get it. I teach Kindergarten and when it was alllowed, I always asked parents "do you plan on attending?"
You did mention it to someone and they should have asked.
I would have been very angry too! I would say something. Not the same, but can you bring in another batch of regular cupcakes to sort of get back your moment?
