I love the creativity behind the concept of elf on a shelf...and it is because of that I will get one for my home. However, the idea of telling a child to behave bc an elf will report it to santa vs. he should behave bc it's the right thing to do is something I've thought alot about.
Does anyones kid actually behave differently because of the Elf? I dont notice a change with any kids i know.
My DD is generally well behaved but she amps up the "being good factor" when "Hermie" is out. 
Funny story. The other night my DH was asking Emerson if she has been a good girl this year and she, of course, says yes. So DH says, "Well I know a few times where you haven't listened to Mommy and Me. Remember.........."
And she cuts him off by putting a finger to her lips to make him be quiet and shaking her head no so he stops. She quietly whispers, "Daddy, ssssshhhhhh. Hermie is right there, he's going to hear you. He can't hear the bad stuff".  We were dying, she was genuinely concerned he heard something.

I have to admit, I think the boxed Elf on a Shelf is a bit creepy looking. It's like the Chuckie doll. We have a stuffed elf that we got years ago before the boxed version came out. We have fun with it! The elf gets into things, leaves gifts, and the kids really enjoy it. Our Elf hasn't arrived yet for the season yet though. Probably not until around December 15th

Elf, I saw you hanging from a tree alongside the LIRR tracks coming from Jamaica to Ronkonkoma, somewhere after Mineola. I am wondering if anyone else reading this saw you there today. I was . You were looking right into the train. Best Elf location ever!!!!

This is hilarious. Right now Elf I have no use for you but I might take advantage when we have children. Unless .... Do you work on misbehaving husbands? And maybe, just maybe you can patrol these boards and keep the drama to a minimum this holiday season

I Freaking LOVE you BUT I keep forgetting to move you and I am running out of ideas on what to tell my kids each morning as to why you didn't move....maybe you could get an alarm fitted that would come on when the kids go to bed reminding mommy to take you for a little walk but yes I love you so much I buy one of your friends as a gift every year.

I love you. This is our first year having "Jingle" and my older DS just adores looking to you each morning. My little one could care less about you, but he may get more into you next year when he a little older.

I love you but I don't think my DS is a fan. He totally didn't believe me when i told him you go to the North Pole every night and he's convinced that my DH moved you last night. Ridiculous, I know!

I think it's a cute idea, but not for my family. I feel like it's just too much. I worry it will actually be counterproductive in keeping the kids believing in Santa. Also not crazy about the concept of using it as a behavior tool when the Elf makes so much mischief of his own.
