I had to call poison control a couple of months ago because Jacob got hold of his chewable vitamins and I had no clue how many he ate... They told me that to overdose on them he would have to have eaten 60...

Let's hope he is ok, and hopefully he will just not be able to have vitamins for a couple of days...

Oh no.. I was sure I'd find that on page 5 there was an update... We're all very worried about Andew and your family!

Oh, thank God about the vitamins and you're right--so fortuitous that you caught the other problem! Hope he's better soon...

I just found Andrew with the bottle of my vitamins.

It has been a long day

I will tell the story now. I took a shower and when I came out I found Andrew standing there with my vitamins in his hand and in his mouth. He had climbed up on my dresser and somehow opened them. And he had already had his vitamin for the day too.

I didn't know how many he ate so I called my ped and they said because they have extra Iron to take him to the ER and they will call ahead.

When we got there they did a stomach x-ray and then we had to wait 4 hrs until they could take blood to see how his levels looked. Andrew was sooo good and actually slept most of the time until it was time for the blood tests.

We had to wait another hour And finally they told us that he did not have toxic levels of iron in his system but during the x-ray they found another problem.

It seems that even though Andrew goes to the bathroom everyday, he was soo constipated it went all the way up to his ribs. She said it looks like he has been backed up like this for a year

She couldn't believe it. She said this explains why he doesn't eat well, why he sometimes complains of a stomach ache (which she said with a backup like this she can't believe he wasn't screaming in pain everyday) and also explains why he randomly vomits. I felt soo awful. She made me feel like I should have known but because he went everyday, I had no idea.

They gave him an enema and now is on stool softners for 2 weeks and I have to give him another enema next week. I go to the ped tomorrow and they will give me recs to gastro dr's to find out why this happened.

Thank you so much for your prayers It means a lot to me. It is weird but it was sort of meant to be that all this happened the way it did or else I would have never known what was going on.

He is in a lot of pain now from the medicine. It is making him crampy but she said it will take at least 2 weeks of contant poop for his bowels to clear out My poor baby

And a side note. I will be taking showers at night when DH is home to supervise him. He cannot be trusted anymore.

While I'm glad he didn't have any toxic levels of iron in him, maybe this was a kind of blessing in disguise that they were able to detect his other problem.

I hope the enemas and stool softeneners provide him with much relief until the gastro doctors can examine him

So happy to hear that he is ok. It's amazing how these things turn out. I never would have suspected anything to be wrong either so don't feel bad! Hope he is comfortable

I can't believe that he is that backed up. I would have never known either, especially that he has been going everyday.

I think Val (Joenick) had her little one on stool softeners also recently, so you might want to ask her for a recommendation of her doctor

I am curious now about my own son who has similiar issues with stomach aches and who also doesnt eat well. And he only goes every 2-3 days. Ill have to keep an eye on him and increase his fiber intake..somehow.
