Oh please! The Today Show really has a segment on Michelle Obama in shorts.
The woman's on vacation in the Grand Canyon and they're discussing if it's too lax that she's getting off the plane wearing shorts. Is there nothing more newsworthy?
So now here's the question:
Should the First Lady dress so informally?

I just watched too, and I have to say I think it is the most STUPID thing ever!!!
it was a 106 degrees out and she is on vacation. I could see if she had on some skanky booty/coochy shorts on. They are mid thigh and fit her well.
Lighten up folks.

I also just watched. You could tell even Matt Lauer thought it was ridiculous. Its not like she was wearing daisy dukes and a tube top.
What I thought was even worse about askingabout her wearing shorts was when they said it was ok for Barack Obama to wear jeans, shorts, baseball caps, etc when getting off air force one. If a photo is taken of him dressed informally, it is the PHOTOGRAPHERS fault for taking a pic of him like that. But if Michelle Obama gets off the plane in shorts, its HER fault for not dressing more formally.
Talk about a double standard. Give me a break.

Yes she is on vacation BUT she still represents the USA 24/7. Enough with the shorts and sneakers....the First Lady should be dressed appropriately at all times. She could have worn lightweight long pants.

Didn't she know that when her husband took the oath that he also swore that the both of them NEVER EVER wear casual clothing while on vacation with their family - regardless of their roles.
It amazes me how people will go out of their way to criticize the most ridiculous topics

she is not a regular person anymore...she is the First Lady of the United States and she is looked upon as a role model and a representative of this country. and her vacation is being paid for by us the citizens of the US.

They have to fly in a secured manner. The first family has to be protected. I think there is nothing wrong with this. She's not meeting with the heads of state..she's on vacation with her family. She's human not a robot. I've been to the canyon in the summer...no way would any more clothing be appropriate.

she is not a regular person anymore...she is the First Lady of the United States and she is looked upon as a role model and a representative of this country. and her vacation is being paid for by us the citizens of the US.
So what if she is the First Lady, she can no longer be comfortable when on vacation with her family? She's not wearing hoochie shorts, stiletto heels & a tummy shirt.
There is nothing wrong with what she has on.

I agree with Lisa. She's not hiking in the Grand Canyon in this picture. She's getting off Air Force One. I am sure the it's plenty comfortable on the plane that she can wear something more fitting the first lady when she knows there will probably be photographers at her destination.
I am a regular person that flies coach on a commercial airline and never look like that getting on or off a plane.

She looks fine- I see nothing sloppy about the way she looks. And I highly doubt that she's going to start showing up at state dinners in jeans.
Also the President looks hot in suits and I think he knows it.  So I don't think he's going to start looking sloppy at the G8 or similar either.
