Need help from the ladies on the board regarding waxing

I am seriously getting enough guts to get a brazilian wax, I have had it with shaving, so my question is where do you get it done and what does it cost? and pain factor 1-10 what do you give it 10 being the worst. TIA

I went once - it cost about $60. I think it lasted about 45 minutes - but I am not sure. It was a while ago I went.

Re: Need help from the ladies on the board regarding waxing

Ok, I go to a place near my office, Avalon Day Spa, nothing fancy, it's $40.

Pain factor varies for everyone.. I have a pretty high pain threshold but it hurts.. I'm not going to lie. But you have to understand, once they rip off the strip the pain is over, it's like a short rush of pain but totally tolerable. Some people say you should go 1 week after your menstral cycle, and some people take advil like 30 minutes before their appointment... at this point I can go whenever.. you just get used to it.

It really depends on the person to say how long it lasts.. it depends how quickly your hair grows. I can last like 6 weeks.. some people shorter, some longer...

I will say it's AMAZING! If you shave you honestly have no idea what you're missing. You will NEVER go back to shaving once you do it.

it's worth the pain and it really is over before you know it!!

I say GO FOR IT!!!

lol, I don't think they really did it on Nip/Tuck. Mine takes about 20 minutes. The first time you go takes longer cause odds are you are going to tell the lady to stop every time she does a strip..lol

I would say the embarrassment factor is harder to get over than the pain factor... but that's just my opinion....Chat Icon

It wasn't that bad -as the previous poster mentioned it lasts for a second or two and then it is over. On how long I was in there - I am not positive, it was my wedding day and I was in a daze. Bikini waxed are alot less time - 10-15 minutes - if that long

I get brazilians every 4-6 weeks for about 6 years. Even while pregnant. Painful- yeah- but it does fade and a good waxer will put their hand on u right away to numb the pain.

Definitely go to a spa or an upscale nail place. It's usually about 20 min. and can cost from $25-$50.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon a fro.. i love it...

ok, if it's too long it will hurt more, but if it's too short the wax won't grab onto the hair. I would say maybe like half an inch to an inch long? I want you to know I am looking at a ruler right now..lol

You need to let go of the embarrassment factor though... these people do this all day long!

Here's a funny story.. the first time I went to this lady was at a referral from a friend. I had been going to this other lady but she was raising the prices and I was being cheap..lol So I walk in, and she's Russian, she goes, "TAKE OFF PANTS, GET ON BED." I was like, "umm, ok.." she was so mean..lol Next thing I know, she's doing it and as I flinch she's saying, "that's a good girl.. good girl." I honestly wanted to run out of the room. I leave the place and call my friend. she asks me what I thought and I go, "Amy, she's kinda weird." Immediately she goes, "Oh, with the "good girl" comments right?" Imagine being naked from the waist down and having some 40 year old russian lady all up in your business calling you a "good girl".. Chat Icon That was the worst part, but now we talk the whole time she's doing it, and thankfully she's stopped with the "good girl" comments. Chat Icon

Did they tell you to flip over? The first time someone told me that during a wax I froze. My friend's lady makes her get on all 4's..lol

Re: Need help from the ladies on the board regarding waxing

a little TMI but Can I ask how far do they go in for removal?? (did I make sense?)

I am the daily shaver just to get the smooth look but this might be a way to go.

Waxing I think hurts in general anywhere but you are right, its the initial sting that goes away.

Ok, I think Im interested....maybe pre wedding for HM Chat Icon

Sure, you can ask whatever you want..lol I have no shame..lol a French wax is EVERYTHING.. a Brazilian is everything but a landing strip. I didn't know this until I told her I wanted everything and she charged me $10 extra dollars telling me it was a french.

You shave everyday?! OMG.. doesn't it hurt?! You seriously HAVE to try the wax.

Oh wait, are you asking me how far in YOU the waxer goes?..lol If you're getting the French, which is everything, she goes as far in as she needs to go to get everything... if ya know what I mean Chat Icon

Re: Need help from the ladies on the board regarding waxing

It most definitely hurts, but the sting goes away shortly afterwards and it lasts several weeks. IMO it's worth it for the pain. You can also do things to curb the pain. 1. Never go the week before or a few days after your period b/c the skin is way more sensitive. 2. Take advil 1 hour before. 3. Pull up the skin in that area so it's taut.
Also, some places have some type of numbing wax or cream that takes away some of the sting.

I go to a woman in Little Neck. Take an advil before going and I always ring a wash cloth while they do it. It hurts/stings ... but it fades as quickly as it's done and sooooo worth it!
