DH has the same vent as his FB status. He said it was horrible driving to work this morning with all the snow/ice chunks flying at him.

I get it for normal cars and SUVs but how the heck would you clean off the top of a school bus?

ITA but this is going to turn ugly. Chat Icon

I remember a thread last winter about the exact same thing.

I agree with the OP. But I think I started this thread last year, and you wouldn't believe the excuses people had for not cleaning off their car. I really wish the police would start ticketing for this, it's dangerous.

its extremely dangerous... and i remember bloomberg saying something about it the other day...

I just saw this on my way in to work!!! I cleaned my car off yesterday. There really should be a law against not cleaning your car off.

I thought it was a law?

I thought so too!

I always clean off the top of my car. My mom's friend died years ago because a big chunk of ice flew off of the car in front of his and went right through his windshield, so I always make sure that I do that!

ohh boy...how sad...so sorry...

we always clean our cars off, now that dh and i own a home with a 2 car garage, we dont have to clean the car off (unless it snow while we are out). i have a suv and climb up the sucker to make sure everything is off of it.

i also dont appreciate when people dont clean off their tail/break lights...its dangerous

Re: My vent for the day (Snow related)

I can't stand when I flipping see this.

DH had a chunk of ice slam into his windshield - it flew off the vehicle in front of him.

It cracked his windshield straight across. He was lucky that it didn't crack his head.

People who do this are complete morons and lazy. There shouldn't even be an argument OR an excuse for this. Don't drive your car if you can't clean it off properly. Don't get an SUV if you can't clean it off properly. Plain and simple.

I would think buses would be even easier than cars and SUVs. Buses are kept in a common parking lot, so all they would need would be a sweeper arm mechanism to sweep off the roof as they drive under it. Have it over a grate system that is over a large pit that catches the snow, or sends it to the sewer system. All the buses are the same height, so the arm could be a fixed height. Should be fairly simple and relatively cheap.

I'll drive my truck under a tree in my yard to sweep off the roof if it's really bad.

excellent idea!

It's such a pet peeve of mine too, and i don't understand how people that are driving cars with these big chunks of snow on top don't see how dangerous it is!

Re: My vent for the day (Snow related)

Completely agree! I was fuming this morning at how many cars and SUV's had snow on top of their cars. Last year, a sheet of ice/snow flew off this woman's SUV when I was driving behind her and I literally had to swerve into the next lane to avoid it crashing onto my car. I was lucky enough to not have someone else in the lane next to me or it would have been ugly. Turns out I was right by my job and this lady works with me and I actually said something to her in the parking lot to which she responded, "her children can't reach that high". Chat Icon

I don't have this issue b/c if you remember I park my car inside b/c I'm perfect Chat Icon

But I REALLY REALLY think police should ticket for this. It is sooo dangerous, it take all of 2 to 3 minutes to clean the roof of a car, if that....
I feel like this would be the peanut allergy thing again.....2 minutes of your time to save someones life so they don't drive off the road, have a cracked windshield, or get hit directly with snow isn't too much to ask.

Re: My vent for the day (Snow related)

HUGE pet peeve of mine. I WISH they would ticket anyone who doesn't clean off their cars. I drive a minivan, am pregnant and STILL managed to clean off my car.
Today however, every other car had ICE flying off their roofs. I went to Kohl's - this woman pulls in with snow covering her roof and entire back window. She pulls into a spot head first. How the h3ll is she going to pull out of the spot later? Freakin idiot. I was fuming...

Re: My vent for the day (Snow related)

I hate this! I saw so many drivers on the way to work like this. there was almost an accident because everyone was trying to go around this car with ice flying off his car. he litterally only wiped the front windshield and only enought to see out on the drivers side. I was going to take a picture but I never got to a red light when I was near him, I could not believe it.

And we passed a cop, I was hoping he would pull him over. consdiering he was not displaying his tail lights, signals, or license plate properly, he could have ticketed him for those if the snow law is not in effect in NY

you could not even see an inch of his brake lights. very dangerous all around!

This is an interesting point. I clean my vehicles off, but I honestly never even check to see if my license plate is visible. Brake lights, yes, but not the plate. I wonder if they do/would enforce that, even now.....
