moving onto a bed...

How did you know that your child was ready to leave the crib and move onto the bed? Also, how old where they? Thanks!

Re: moving onto a bed...

My DD was 19 months when she moved to her twin bed.

Her sister arrived when she was 20 months old and my oldest was sleeping in her twin for a month already without a problem.

Of course - we moved her to a twin bed because we wanted to use the crib for her newborn sister - it all worked out well.

Re: moving onto a bed...

My oldest DD was 17 months old. We weren't sure if she was ready but we needed the crib for the new baby. We decided to just do it. She spent 1-2 weeks sleeping in weird places(like on top of her toy shelfChat Icon) before she figured out the bed was a better idea. After that she did great.

My younger DD was different. Since there was no baby we decided we would wait as long as possible, we were thinking until at least 2. But she had other ideas... She had a crib tent for safety issues(her sister shared a room and would throw toys, pillows and blankets into the crib and then climb in with her). Around 13-14 months old she started screaming when put into the crib, she would cry for at least an hour every night and started to wake up 2-6 times a night. We couldn't take the crying anymore so we switched her to a twin bed at only 15 months old. She did great with the transition. She started sleeping though the night and has been a joy at bedtime since(she is now 20 1/2 months old).
