Moving from the crib to the bed.

At what age did you move your child to a bed, and why?

Lately, Lily has been waking up at 5 or 6 in the morning (used to be 7 or 8), and screaming uncontrollably in her crib until one of goes in to get her. She refuses to go back to sleep, and that's when her day starts.

I'm wondering if maybe she's waking up in the morning, and feeling too confined in her crib. Maybe putting her in a bed would give her more freedom, and then in the morning, if she wakes early, she can entertain herself with her toys until we wake up....

Thoughts? Advice? (please....I'm exhaustedChat Icon )

IDK, Hailey will be 3 in June and still in a crib. I "might" try in August but not sure. I am scared of her having freedom!

Emma went to a bed at almost 22 months. She was climbing out of the crib regulary and we were very afraid that she'd get hurt. We had decent luck with the crib mattress on the floor.

However, since she's tall for her age we bought a twin bed after a couple weeks. The boxspring and mattress are on the floor for now. We had about a week of her falling/rolling out (we put a mat next to the bed) but now she stays in all night. She also can't get out of her room by herself (yet!) Chat Icon

We made the move at 2-years-old. She never tried to climb out or anything like that. We just felt like we wanted her to feel like a big girl. She handled it like a champ.

samantha is 2 1/2 today and loves her crib still...has never (knock on wood) tried to get out and asks to be put in Chat Icon ..at this rate, we will have to have a twin bed custom made for her...we even bought a new crib for the next baby since dd is so happy and content in it...she wakes up and will play in it....so i dread the day she realizess she cna walk around, etc....

My thought - keep them in the crib until they are doing backflips off of it!

She may just be changing her routine. Jack was really off for about a week a few weeks ago (waking at 5am when normally it was 6:30) thankfully it passed!

Re: Moving from the crib to the bed.

Kaitee was 17 months old. We needed the crib for Brooke.

Brooke was only 15 months old. Night time was terrible she would scream and grip on to us when we tried to put her into the crib. She would then cry for a LONG time before she would go to sleep. Then she would wake up 3-4 times a nightChat Icon so we moved her to a twin bed at 15 months and she did great. Going to bed is easy and she now sleeps through the nightChat Icon

I was hoping it was a phase.....but it's been about 3 weeks now (not everyday - but most). I remember you posting about it when Jack was going through it, and that's when it started.
I have to get up at 5:30 for work anyway, so it's not a big deal for me during the week...but this Sunday at 5am thing is not fun!!

I don't want to put her in a bed....she's still my itty bitty baby....but I don't know what else to do!
