That video is the reason we decided not to do it. I had nightmares after I saw it and I didn't even finish it! I personally think anyone who plans to circ NEEDS to watch it. The descriptions of a circ don't even remotely show how gruesome the procedure really is.
I've seen other circs though (at bris') and they were NOTHING like the horror that was in the video. The babies barely cried at all, and were fine seconds later.
I don't know what we'll do if we have a boy - we're on the fence.

I am literally crying after watching that video, and I'm nauseous. I don't know if I could do that to my baby.
I know Dh would probaly want him circumsized, but I think I'll save this video for him to see.

Circumccision is nothing like that video, I could not even watch it through, that doc was a creep....that was torture for that poor baby. I have had both my boys done and it was nothing like that at all, and I was right there with them. Any professional will assure you it is fine and besides the doctors numb them up a little. It is fine. That guy was a quack doctor.

IDK, every circ video I've seen shows the baby crying like that. Some babies pass out or hyperventilate from the pain. And no pain meds are 100% effective during a circumcision, so the poor babies feel it

Did you pediatricians try and encourage it? We are meeting with a ped group next week. I am nervous that they are going to try and push us to do it.
I don't feel like justifying it, or calling out DH while we are standing there to say he's not cut and problem free.
Do they tend to have a opinion, or do they stay out of it?

They should not try to encourage it. There's no reason to, unless your DS develops a rash or infection because of it but that is very rare. I would be mad if my son's pedi gave us a problem over it. He didn't thankfully. Good luck!

I'm not a frequent poster-I pop in once in a while but I had to respond. Circumcision is just like in the video if you use the particular clamp that was used. That doctor has perfect technique and did a textbook circumcision. Not all babies cry like that but plenty do. There is another clamp that is quicker to use but does not protect the penis so many physicians don't like to use it. That clamp makes it more similar to a circ done at a bris. Your doctor may have used that clamp and so that is why you think its different but many if not most use the one pictured in the video. I don't think the video is necessarily a good way to make this decision but it is accurate. To be fair, the babies stop crying almost immediately afterwards so that shouldn't be the main factor in making a decision either. Anyway, to answer the original question the pediatrician should suppport your choices as a parent if they are reasonable. I would look for someone who does.

That was the Gomco clamp method pictured in the video and you are right, its the most common way to circumcise. I also posted a link to a Plastibell circ video on this thread.

I don't regret having Andrew circum but I do regret having my old ped do it whom I hated from the beg but did it without me even knowing it
All of a sudden the NICU told me she did it.
Now we are having some issues because she didin't do a good job and every month the new ped has to go and seperate the skin. It is awful and so painful for Andrew.

My friend WARNS all of us who may have boys to not used to Gumco because she it was sheer torture for her son and he was blood raw afterwards. She says if you're going to circ to ask for the plastibell. She also said she is glad her second was a girl because if she had another boy she didn't think she could have him go through the pain of circumcisoin.

OMG that first video was the most heart wrenching video EVER!! There is no way I wil circumcise my son if we have one. I was leaving up to DH and just informed him that it's no longer an option.  That just made me sick. I don't even want to watch the other one.
