Moms of 2 babies that are close in age

No - I don't have any news Chat Icon

My question is - what do you do for a crib for the second one? Do you have to go out an get another one? Or is the older one going into a bed?
What if the the older one is to young for a bed - what are you doing?

Katherine is going to be 20 months when the new baby is born. We bought her a new crib because I am hoping she stays in it until close to age 3. Also, the last thing I desired with a newborn is Kate getting up out of bed and joining me at the crack of dawn. Most importantly, I wanted her life to change as little as possible during the next 2 months. We are putting her in a "big girl" room in less than 2 weeks...I felt that was enough change.

Re: Moms of 2 babies that are close in age

SIL is sending down my nieces' twin bed that their grandma bought for her before she passed away. Until Aly is ready for it, we are buying a convertible for her (maybe a 2 in 1 that only goes to the toddler type bed) and then when she goes into the real bed, DS will get the convertible.

The crib in the nursery would need to be taken apart to move it because the doorway is an odd shape so we can't just roll it out.

as for the bedding....not sure yet if the pooh is staying in the nursery or going with Alyson since she's had it since birth

Yes - we have two cribs. They are 14 months apart so there was no choice. However, for my DD, we just got her a $100 crib from BBB and gave the new baby all of her old Bellini stuff. We moved to a new house before the baby was born so she got a whole new room anyways. And I purchased all white, girly furniture that she will have for many years.

Our original crib wasn't convertible, so we left that in the nursery for Andy and Sarah moved into a new room with a new convertible crib that will then become her toddler bed and then a double bed. When Andy gets older my friend is lending me a racing car toddler bed for him and then we'll get him bunk beds when he outgrows that.

My nieces are 12 months apart (& a few weeks). My SIL/bro got 2 cribs, although the 2nd one wasn't nearly as expensive. Now the oldest (27 months) is moving to her big girl bed next week & little one (15 months) is taking the more expensive crib from her sis (selling the other).

I am doing the same exact thing with DD. She'll be 17 months when #2 comes...

Joseph was 22 months when Maddie was born. She spent 3 months in a bassinet. When she moved into the crib, he moved out. He went to a regular twin size bed.

I thought a second crib or a toddler bed was a waste of money. JMO.

Re: Moms of 2 babies that are close in age

It totally depends on your children.

Mine are 18 months apart. I tried with Gabriella to switch over to a bed 2 months before Gianni came and she refused. Tried again a month before, refused. Weeks before, refused. I had to get a second crib. She still sleeps in at at almost 3. She's been able to get in and out for a year now (by herself) but since they both have their own crib, there was no need to rush anything.

Re: Moms of 2 babies that are close in age

I *plan* on moving Logan into his new room in June/July and putting him in a bed. He'll be 18/19 months) He is very good in terms of motor skills (can get up on the couch/back down independently) so I am hoping that is indicitive of him being able to transfer safely to a bed. I probably will gate his room (its literally right next to mine). I feel bad because if we say "go get your bear its in your room" he knows the nursery as HIS room.

ETA: We live in a ranch...that made the decision easier in terms of safety too.

Re: Moms of 2 babies that are close in age

DD will be 14 months old when #2 is born, so she will still need her crib.

We are buying #2 a regular crib. DD has a lifetime crib that turns into a toddler then full size.

They are going to share of room, so hopefully we will move by the time this happens, but once #2 needs a toddler bed, we are going to turn Gianna's bed into full size and they will share the bed.

But hopefully i will have a bigger house by then!

Nate is 21 months and will probably stay in his crib for another 3-4 months, while the baby will be sleeping in the co-sleeper. When we move the baby to the crib, we'll buy Nate a twin size bed.

We bought convertible crib/daybed/twin bed sets for both DC, so it was never an issue for them. They will have the same furniture for 18+ years (whether they like it or not! Chat Icon )
