There are only a handful of times when it bothered me, mainly last summer when they were required outdoors and it was 95+ degrees (at Hershey and Colonial Williamsburg).
Having been at Hershey in 98 degree weather this year with a heat index in the 100's there is no way I could have worn a mask
Many, many people were passing out and medical trucks were carting people around like it was a battle field.
So in that situation, I 100% agree it's not feasible and probably down right dangerous.
We walked around Williamsburg for hours in masks last summer and it was about 95. It was uncomfortable to say the least. When we needed a little break we just walked away from everyone and took them down. We also went to Hershey in July. Masks were required everywhere but not in the waterpark. Made absolutely no sense as we were in the wave pool packed with about 1000 people shoulder to shoulder with no masks.
I think on hot days in school they should allow them to take the masks off and just have them put them on when they have to get up and walk around.

My daughter is doing dance camp these weeks and she said mask optional. I hope the schools say the same.

My daughter is doing dance camp these weeks and she said mask optional. I hope the schools say the same.
My daughter did gymnastics from the fall through the spring and no masks on children in the facility. Only adults...so the coaches wore masks, parents entering had to wear masks etc.
Kids...maskless. All winter long.
Not one issue.
Mind blowing I know!

I do too for ALL schools as once again, sigh, it is not just for public schools. Public schools are just a longer day and have busses also that have been required.
Now on to the vaccination fight with colleges and my youngest is holding out as they might not make it mandatory. My oldest has no choice as school is not in NY.

Just amazing, right?
I would love to know from the emails we got almost everyday with the numbers of positive cases how many were asymptomatic, how many kids had to go to the hospital and we do know that fortunately none died. My kid knew many that came up positive and were not even sick.

My kids school allows & encourages the students to take their masks off when seated and reading or working. They aren't wearing masks all day.
Last summer, same thing, we pull it down when we need to, we don't just stand there dying to breathe.

I never understood that either.
I want to know who sits down and actually thinks of these asinine rules. Probably someone with a bunch of masters degrees, phd, doctorate, makes a ton of money but has no common sense whatsoever.

Yes, use common sense like the pp stated. Within reason. Rigid thinking seems to be an issue when debating something that for most seems clear.

My DD is in a summer enrichment program in her public school in Nassau. She has to wear a mask at all times- indoors and outdoors.
ETA: She's also in a private gymnastics camp one day a week and no masks are required for the kids, but they are required for the adults. One or two kids still wear masks.

I haven’t seen any protests in the streets about being asked for documented proof you are vaccinated. I’ve heard complaining.
I’ve seen more protests about it being racist and against so many rights for being asked for documentation for voting.But that’s another issue.
Can’t compare the US to other countries right now. We’re divided and have zero trust in the government. Plus we are different in so many ways. Look at countries like Cuba fighting for the rights that we are trying to give away.

Only a very small percentage of the protests you are talking about feature "rioting and looting" and there is evidence most of that is incited by white supremacists.
I know from prior discussions you consume a lot of right wing media. I recommend branching out so you can get more fact based reports.

College-aged kids have some of the lowest vaccination rates (because I’m sure it’s all a big joke to them and they are invincible and know everything) so I can see mandating masks for school.

I don’t know any college kid who has that attitude honestly and I think SUNY and CUNY is doing this to push the vaccines as they can’t require them until they are approved by the FDA.
