I would spend about $500, but my problem is that I love it for 3 or 4 months and then I am done with it and it gets tossed in the closet w/ all the others. So for that reason, I can't justify ME spending more than $100 for my tendancies of 'going on to the next'. I hardly use my Coach bag that I just 'had to have'.
Once I bought Tommy Hilfiger (sp?) sandels/flip flops at L&T for about $50 (flip flops!!!), and I have to say I wore them until they died (3 seasons?) and I wish I bought 3 pairs of them --that is the only item I cherished/loved and used until died and I would have spent $$$$ more money to just get another pair.

I have spent $500 on a bag, and that is my limit, before I had kids I bought a $500 coach bag and a pair of manolo blahniks in 1 day and never blinked an eye!!!

myself having to buy it no more then $400 now Dh and me $1,000!!! I finally got my LV bag that I wanted for a long time!!! Only One bag though and now I will have this LV for the rest of my life he said!! LOL

I have spent $600 on a LV. But an ex boyfriend spent 1K on a Prada bag for me....I wouldn't do that!

The most I have spent is $550, but I would say up to $800. In fact, there are a few I am eyeing right now. DH thinks I am nuts!

If I'm buying it for myself - I would never spend more than $100... I'm just not a bag fanatic... but if DH was buying it, I'd let him spend up to $400.

The most I ever spent was $300 on a Kate Spade. I have got some very nice expensive bags as gifts, but now I wouldn't spend more than $200 myself.

Whoa....I can't believe how much some people would spend  . Honestly, I wouldn't spend more than $50. I have no need for a designer bag. I rarely even carry a purse any more.

Wow, I'm a cheap-o! I never spend more than $50-$100. I don't know, I just never got into the handbag phenomenon. I just (GASP!) don't get it...
I am similar.
DH has bought me a nice leather work tote and a Coach bag but even so as gifts - I was like no more than $200. I don't get spending that much on a bag.

The fact that I'm hard on them and I use them to death makes me more inclined to spend good $$. I use a Michael Kors tote as a schoolbag, and you can't imagine the abuse this thing has taken, and it's so well made it stands up to it. I would have gone through 3 or 4 cheaper bags by now!

The only reason that I have my 2 wonderful Coach bags is because other people bought them for me as gifts. I could personally NEVER spend more than $50 on a handbag for myself, and even $50 is a bit much. I usually buy the ones at target for $12.99!
I LOVE my Coach bags, and a very grateful that I have such wonderful friends to chip in and get them for my birthdays! I have 1 brown and 1 black, and I haven't bought a handbag on my own since I got these. I'd rather save my money for more important things.

can someone explain the willingness to spend as much as a car on a purse?

I wouldn't spend more than $100. My DH bought me a Mulberry bag - I have no idea how much he spent. I don't even want to know, I get nervous just using it!!! And yes, it does end up on the floor under my desk most of the time, as some one else said.

I would never spend more than $200 max on a bag. Any bags that I have over that amount were gifts. DH bought me a Marc Jacobs bag for christmas and I returned it! I could not walk around with a $1000+ bag. I'd be afraid to carry it on my arm

Handbags are my weakness too, but I will only go as far as a Coach tote for $498 with the matching wallet for $198... no more.. I cannot afford Louis Vuitton or anything like that. Fortunately, Coach is my favorite!
