Just out of curiosity...if you sent DH to the supermarket....

with the following list, what would happen?

1.Milk
2.Bread
3.Chicken breasts
4.deli turkey
5.toilet paper
6.Please pick up anything else we might need.

It was my experiment of the day. As I stare into my empty cabinets that echo back to me when I call, I found the "anything else", which was a bag of Sun Chips. Apparently, that's all we neededChat Icon I'll tell ya, he cracks me up that JT.Chat Icon

He would get what's on the list, spend an additional $50 on stuff that is mostly perishable and get thrown out after a week because it wouldn't get eaten. That's why I do the grocery shopping.

He would get ALL of the items on the list, but then leave off the thing we needed the most... but also a bag of potato chips for good measure.

My DH would get the items on the list plus some junk food like chips, soda, DIBBS, some sickeningly sweet cereal, poptarts, and maybe a card for me or little stuffed animal for me or something, because he loves to give me little "surprises."

Re: Just out of curiosity...if you sent DH to the supermarket....

We'd probably end up with a bunch of sugary cereal and milanos. I'd probably also get a phone call from the store with a million questions. He's clueless. On Thanksgiving I sent him for 2 cans of corn and he comes back with some lame brand, no salt added crap. It was horrible. I'll stick to doing th eshopping myself.Chat Icon

Re: Just out of curiosity...if you sent DH to the supermarket....

I usually do the all the food shopping, but he must have anticipated a boring day and ASKED me if he could go! Who could say no to that?! I purposely didn't give him a detailed list becuase I was definitely curious to see what he would come home with. Hey, at least he bought the things I wrote down. I'm certainly thankful for that or else I'd be finding some unsavory things to wipe with tonightChat Icon

see now, my DH would buy sun chips, M&Ms, gourmet mustard, every ready bake cookie out there and a "variation" of half the staples on the list.

He would get everything on the list and the 'anything else we need' would be four bags of fritos scoops and as many jars of HOT salsa he could find (because you can never have enough salsa, though my cabinets tell a different story).

He would probably call me at least 10 times from each aisle and forget something really important like milk! And he would swear they were out of it Chat Icon

We would end up with about half of what was on the list.He would probably spend a lot more than I thought and would come home with a bunch of stuff I don't eat and tell me we can freeze it and eat it over the next week or so...Chat Icon Chat Icon

The one thing he would never forget is my seltzer water so we'd be ok there!!

He's pretty good, he does all the shopping with a list I provide. But he would get all of the above in addition to every kind of cheese known to mankind.

He would buy:
Milk
Bread
Chicken Breasts
15,000 rolls of toilet paper
He would not pick up deli turkey but would deliver a lecture on why I shouldn't be feeding the kids lunch meat.

Anything else = stopping at a guitar store, a sx pack of beer, fresh mozzarella, hot italian sausage, fresh basil etc

Re: Just out of curiosity...if you sent DH to the supermarket....

All of our hubbies must come from the same mold, this post is hysterical ! Chat Icon

Wait, does anyone else's hubby walk down EVERY SINGLE AISLE ????????????
Since having 3 kids, he's BARELY gone to the supermarket (and thats the way I demand it be, for the above mentioned reasons of similar hubbies Chat Icon) but when we would go together, Id be like "pet food, why are we in this aisle? Chat Icon Chat Icon

My grocery shopping is down to a science. I walk in with list, coupons and strategies in hand and mind, and dont waste a single second. Im on a mission and stay out of my way.
Then I walk out spending like $70 for $200 in groceries and I get to go home where he unloads and stocks everything and I brag about my savings, oh how corny Ive become Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Just out of curiosity...if you sent DH to the supermarket....

The first 5, he'd probably get brands that I don't like. For example, he drinks lowfat milk and I drink whole milk. If I just put milk on the list, he'd probably get lowfat milk for himself and forget about me. As for number 6, he'd get a whole bunch of crap for himself without even glancing at prices and be astonished at the checkout at how much he spent and he'd blame it on my first 5 items Chat Icon Chat Icon. This is why I go grocery shopping by myself while he watches the kiddies.

Re: Just out of curiosity...if you sent DH to the supermarket....

1. He would get whole milk, when I drink skim.
2. He would get white bread, when I want whole wheat.
3. He wouldn't know how to pick them.
4. He'd do that right
5. I would have to specify exactly which brand.
6. a big bag of plain M&Ms
