jack & jill showers - how do you feel about them?
SIL's who are throwing my baby shower want to make it a Jack and Jill shower.
what do you think?
I've always seen showers as more of a "woman" thing but I guess since SIL's are throwing it they would like my brothers involved.

They are very popular now!
I have only been invited to 1 jack & jill for a baby shower to date and then 1 for a bridal shower (or bridal and groomal??) and DH declined both with a "you cannot seriously think I am coming with you" response.  Depends on the guy I guess. But if you, DH and your family would like it, then go for it!

We've been to one. DH wanted to shoot himself. Especially during the opening of presents part. He said he wasn't drunk enough to enjoy that part!

Love them and if I had more $$$ I would have it for my sister. but they are pricey since you have more people involved and liquor as well.

I never went to one or knew anyone that did but i dont think i am in favor of them. my hisband is VERY into my pregnanacy and baby stuff but i cant see him intereted in one and i dont know any male freind that wanted to go to one.
but if you know your guests and think they would enjoy it then you should go for it!

See, that's the thing. DH said the same thing. my brothers are kinda ambivalent towards them and I kinda think that most of the men I know would find them torturous.
But I've never been to one so I don't know.
And there will be no alcohol served!! That might be the cincher for DH!

Most guys do hate them but just a thought...you can have your brother there without having to invite everyone else's significant other. At my SIL's shower she had here brother there as well as her DH's brother.

But so what- some might- I htink they're fine- and better for a baby shower than a bridal.

my shower was a jack and jill...but my shower was more of a party than a shower..there was a dj, games and socializing with family and friends....
I didn't open gifts instead I am sending thank you specifically thanking them for their actual gift...
I was going to send a picture of us opening their gifts...but I don't like how I look in them..lol

Honestly i would love to have a "party" instead of the typical baby shower. I even said that about my bridal shower, but my vote didn't count i guess. I honestly hate the idea of spending an hour or so opening gifts, just as much as others hate watching it.
I think a jack and jill shower is a great idea, but only if it's more of a party than the typical baby shower. Otherwise my husband would be looking for the nearest exit!

We've been invited to a couple and DH didn't really want to go at all. I forced him to go to one and I think the other he passed on...
I think they're fun though!

I really like the idea. I just threw a jack and jill shower for my sister and her husband. They both loved it. The men were more into the games and presents than the women were!

I have been to three jack and jill showers and two were parties and the third was a BBQ. The boys had more fun than the girls at these, but of course the alcohol was flowing.

when we got married, DH didn't even want to 'endure' the tail end of my bridal shower  I forced him by reminding him the gifts were for him too...
I envision all the guys slinking out of the room to eat chips and drink beer in the yard.... so I'll keep it all girls....

I am not a fan. I think most guys find it torture. I think if DH wants to stay and open the presents more power to him, but I know guys dont like to be there. I know for my sil shower my brothers were tricked into staying. they would have much rather been somewhere else.

I have hosted them and I think they are fun!! Just make sure to mix male and female activities into the party. We had a casino table in the dining room and we had BBQ food.
I think it is a modern way of having a baby shower because honestly, it should celebrate the father and mother of the baby!
