I need help choosing a tile backsplash and a wall color for my kitchen? please look at the pics.

Hi ladies-

I am so bad at this but don't want to make the wrong decision. I got an estimate today and would like to hire someone to remove my wallpaper, paint my walls, and remove/add a backsplash. But, I am "color challanged." Can anyone look at my pictures and see if you "visualize" a color scheme for this kitchen? I'm desperate here... lol

(try to ignore the hideous wallpaper lol)

i think dark olive color would look great, or maybe neutral olive.

What colors do you have in the rest of your house and do you intend to keep them after the kitchen reno?

The dining room and living room are a pale mint green. Yes, I plan on keeping that the same. what is your reccomendation?

how about olive green walls and pressed tin backsplash? are you open to staining or painting the cabinets? if not in the budget, i would definitely replace the current cabinet hardware. what you have is too modern for the cabinets.

I think your cabinets are very nice the way they are! I wouldn't change them a bit. Now, you are changing both the tile backsplash and the color of the wall? how about a natural stone for the backsplash and find a paint color you can pull from the stone? Let me see if I can find a nice backsplash.....

I love my backsplash - it's brown glass tile that has beiges and even some red flecks throughout each piece. Pics are in my album

While normally I would have suggested like the other girls an olive green because it would contrast the color of the cabinets nicely, since the room abuts a mint/pale green I would not do olive green in the kitchen. Instead, I would go for a tumbled stone back-splash and a beige wall that is tonally similar to the green in the adjoining room. If you are open to painting the mint green then it would open up your color palate. Alternatively, if you have the name of the paint color in the living/dining room I would go to the paint store and look to see what colors are on the same paint chip and either pick a darker or lighter color from the same family. Alternatively you can go over horizontally from that paint chip and pick a different color in the same row.

ETS: I completely agree with Rachel. Personally I would do either of the top two choices she posted.

i have to agree with PP. green is not the color i would go with b/c the room next to it...
Plus, whenever anyone asks for color suggestions for kitchens, everyone's first thought is green. Let's go for something else.

Rachel's backsplash colors are perfect. i like the distinctiveness of the very first one. it's cool! i would build my color off of that.

PS - my kitchen is BRIGHT YELLOW... not for everyone, but i love it!!

ETA- how about that slate blueish color in the first tile picture? that would be off the beaten path and would gorgeous!

Great suggestions. Thank you! I do love Rachels first choice. I'm just afraid since space is limited... do you think the bigger tiles are too large for the room? Also, I like the tiles that are diagonal, similiar to diamond shapes. Is that in "style?"

Thanks for everyones advice... keep them coming :) Oh I also like the Nantuket gray. I was actually looking at that earlier as well.

I love the very last one you posted & the very first one (top left) since I still need a backsplash.

Lightgreen walls, stainless appliances, black granite counters........hmmmm now to get it & get it installed

We did a pressed tin backsplash instead of tile....it was like an 1/8 of the cost and I LOVE the look.

Also, based on your cabinet color, Id look at a dark tomato red color.

Below are pics of my backsplash and my moms wall color (tomato red) that carries into the kitchen and she has the same color cabinets (pardon DS in the pic). I think the red with a nuetral tumbled tile would be great.
